Aleksandar Mimic: Super Ego Lawsuit and Fraud Allegations

Aleksandar Mimic is the Serbian entrepreneur who founded and leads Super Ego Holding LLC, an Elmhurst, Illinois trucking and leasing company at the center of a nationwide class-action lawsuit accusing him and a network of affiliated carriers of defrauding more than 1,000 owner-operator truckers. The Aleksandar Mimic Super Ego lawsuit, filed in August 2022 in the Northern District of Illinois, alleges falsified pay documents, illegal paycheck deductions, and a “chameleon carrier” scheme designed to evade federal safety enforcement.¹ A federal investigation and an April 2026 CBS 60 Minutes exposé have since amplified the case.

Who Aleksandar Mimic Is

Super Ego Holding LLC was incorporated on January 17, 2019, and operates out of Elmhurst, Illinois, with a second location in Bensenville.² Mimic is listed as its principal and primary contact. 60 Minutes described the business as “a vast network of separate, but coordinated companies” providing brokers, dispatchers, and equipment leases to trucking carriers, with hubs in Elmhurst and Jacksonville, Florida.³

Super Ego publicly describes itself as an equipment leasing company, not a motor carrier. It says it “leases equipment to over 1,200 independent licensed carriers” that are responsible for their own drivers, dispatchers, and DOT compliance.⁴ Plaintiffs and federal investigators describe something else: a single enterprise operating under Mimic’s control.

The Illinois Class Action

The main case is a nationwide class and collective action filed on August 5, 2022, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.⁵ It names Super Ego Holding, the truck leasing company Rex Trucking, and eight affiliated motor carriers: Floyd Inc., Jordan Holdings (doing business as JHI Transport), Haidar Dawood, Kordun, Rocket Expediting, Trytime Transport, Twin Carrier LLC, and Windy City National Trans.¹ The complaint alleges these entities operated interchangeably under Mimic.

The class covers truckers who contracted with the named carriers and were paid on a percentage-of-load basis dating back to August 5, 2012.⁶ Twelve plaintiffs are named, with roughly 800 additional drivers joined as of the latest filings.⁷ Plaintiffs filed their third amended complaint in August 2025, and the case remains in discovery.

Falsified Load Sheets and Missing Pay

The heart of the complaint is the load confirmation sheet, the document showing what a freight broker agreed to pay for a haul. Plaintiffs allege Super Ego dispatchers gave drivers altered sheets showing lower rates than what brokers actually paid, then paid drivers 88% of the reduced figure and kept the difference.¹ The plaintiffs gathered more than 500 such documents, and over 50 brokers reportedly confirmed the paperwork was fraudulent.⁸

Drivers say they were recruited with promises of 88% of every load, 3,000 to 4,000 miles per week, and weekly take-home of at least $2,000 after expenses. The complaint says those numbers never materialized, and some drivers ended pay periods owing the carriers money.¹

Deductions and Fuel Charges

The lawsuit also alleges a stack of unauthorized paycheck deductions for escrow accounts, lease payments, trailer rentals, cargo insurance, maintenance and repairs, occupational accident insurance, and electronic logging device and registration fees.¹ Escrow funds, plaintiffs say, were never returned when contracts ended.⁸

Fuel cards were issued through Floyd Inc., one of the affiliated carriers. Drivers were charged full retail pump prices, but the companies allegedly pocketed the discounts that fuel-card programs normally pass on to the cardholder.¹

Misclassification and Legal Claims

Because Super Ego dictated which loads drivers could accept, monitored them by GPS and electronic logging devices, and required exclusivity, the plaintiffs argue the drivers were employees in all but name. Classifying them as independent contractors, the suit says, let the company sidestep labor protections and push costs onto drivers.⁸ The claims include fraud, breach of contract, and violations of the federal Truth in Leasing Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.⁶

The Chameleon Carrier Allegations

Federal regulators and journalists have described the Super Ego network as a “chameleon carrier” operation, a term for companies that dissolve and re-register under new names and DOT numbers to erase records of safety violations and crashes. Data from risk-assessment firm Fusable shows carriers connected to the network logged nearly 15,000 safety violations and 500 accidents over a two-year period.³

60 Minutes reported that drivers were told to physically alter truck markings with duct tape to match new company names and DOT numbers. Driver Daniel Sanchez told CBS the company had him change the identity displayed on his truck to create what amounted to “a completely new truck.”³ Managers based in Serbia also allegedly used remote access to reset federally mandated electronic time clocks, pushing drivers past the 11-hour legal driving limit.⁹

A whistleblower told 60 Minutes: “They are only asking about making money from the driver. They don’t take care about safety standards.” The same source said dispatchers received bonuses for cutting driver pay and that the network could generate “$1 million, some week $2 million” in profit through those methods.³ 60 Minutes reported that Super Ego-connected carriers have hauled freight for Amazon, Walmart, Costco, and the U.S. Postal Service.¹⁰

Other Lawsuits Naming Mimic

Mimic is also a defendant in Rice v. Super Ego Holding, LLC et al., filed January 23, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (Case No. 5:26-cv-00186). Plaintiffs Tommy Rice and Donita Echoles allege violations of the Interstate Commerce Act. Marko Negic, another Super Ego figure, is also a defendant. Court records show Mimic was served on May 13, 2026; Negic refused service via FedEx on May 20, 2026.¹¹

A separate civil case, Convey Cargo, Inc. v. Super Ego Holding, LLC (Case No. 1:23-cv-01440), was filed in the District of Maryland in 2023 by Convey Cargo, Inc. and two individual plaintiffs on contract-related claims. Super Ego moved to transfer the case and partially dismiss it. The court granted the venue transfer in October 2023 and left the dismissal question for the receiving court.¹²

The Federal Investigation

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has confirmed Super Ego is a target of an active federal investigation. FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs told 60 Minutes in a three-hour interview that the company is among the agency’s “top ten companies” requiring investigation.³

Super Ego’s Response

Super Ego has denied the allegations. After the 60 Minutes broadcast, the company called the segment misleading and reiterated that it is a leasing firm with no responsibility for affiliated carriers’ actions. “Every claim made in the segment, including allegations about driver clocks, DOT rate sheets, DOT numbers, and pay, is false and derives from this central misunderstanding,” the company said.⁴

Where Things Stand

As of mid-2026, the Illinois class action remains in discovery, the Ohio case is in its early stages, and no public criminal charges have been filed against Aleksandar Mimic personally. The FMCSA investigation is ongoing, and no out-of-service orders or authority revocations targeting Super Ego’s specific affiliated carriers have been publicly announced.
