A proposed $2 million class action settlement in Sophia Grubb, et al. v. Alera Group, Inc. would compensate people whose personal, financial, or medical information was exposed in the 2024 Alera Group data breach. If you received a notice from Alera, you can file for either a documented-loss payment of up to $3,500 or an estimated $50 flat cash payment, and you can add two years of credit monitoring on top of either option. The deadline to file a claim, object, or opt out is June 29, 2026, and the court has set a final approval hearing for August 3, 2026.
Who Is Covered by the Settlement
The settlement class includes all living U.S. residents who received a notice from Alera stating their information may have been compromised in the incident. What You Can Claim
The $2 million fund pays cash two ways, and you have to pick one.
Cash Payment A: Documented Losses up to $3,500
This option reimburses out-of-pocket expenses traceable to the breach: identity theft losses, credit monitoring fees, costs to freeze or unfreeze credit, ID replacement, and related postage. Eligible expenses must have been incurred between July 19, 2024, and June 29, 2026. Cash Payment B: Estimated $50 Flat Payment

Two Years of Financial Data Monitoring
You can also elect two years of financial data monitoring through CyEx, Inc., which includes one-bureau credit monitoring, $1 million in identity theft insurance, real-time alerts, and victim assistance. How to File a Claim
Claims can be submitted online at AleraGroupDataSettlement.com or by mailing a completed form to the settlement administrator. If you opt out, you keep the right to pursue separate legal action against Alera. If you stay in and do nothing, you’ll be bound by the settlement and receive no payment.
Opting Out and Objecting
To exclude yourself, you must submit a written opt-out request to the settlement administrator by June 29, 2026. To object, you must file your objection with the court by the same date. The named plaintiffs are asking the court to approve up to $2,250,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs, and $2,000 service awards for each of the nine named plaintiffs. What the Lawsuit Alleges
Between July 19 and August 4, 2024, an unauthorized party accessed Alera Group’s computer network and potentially removed files containing sensitive personal information. Depending on the individual, exposed data included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses, passports, bank account and credit card numbers, medical diagnoses, medications, treatment histories, health insurance and Medicare/Medicaid IDs, usernames, passwords, and biometric information.2HIPAA Journal. The Grubb lawsuit, filed in the Circuit Court of the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County, Florida (Case No. CACE25019102), alleges Alera failed to adequately protect its computer systems, resulting in the unauthorized access.7Alera Group Data Settlement. The Free Credit Monitoring Alera Already Offered
