Andrew Gillum Hotel Incident: No Arrest, Rehab, and Fallout

The Andrew Gillum hotel incident refers to the early morning of March 13, 2020, when Miami Beach police responding to a suspected overdose at the Mondrian South Beach hotel found the former Tallahassee mayor and 2018 Democratic nominee for Florida governor too inebriated to communicate, in a room with three small bags of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a man who had collapsed from an apparent drug overdose. No one was arrested that night. Gillum entered rehab within 48 hours, withdrew from public life, and later came out as bisexual. A separate federal fraud case brought two years later ended in 2023 with an acquittal on one count and the dismissal of every other charge.
