Both parents were fatally stabbed. Authorities said Clinton Brink was attacked first. Cristen Brink fled with the children before returning to try to help her husband.3ABC7 New York. The couple had recently moved from South Dakota to Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Water service at their new home was activated on July 16, 2025, ten days before the killings.5KELOLAND News. Four days after the killings, on July 30, 2025, State Police special agents arrested McGann at Lupita’s Beauty Salon and Barber Shop in Springdale, Arkansas, while he was in the middle of a haircut.84029TV. Authorities reported that McGann admitted to the killings after arrest. State Police also matched his DNA to blood found at the scene.11ABC7 New York. McGann grew up on the Southwest Side of Chicago and graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, in 2015.12Chicago Sun-Times. In the years leading up to the killings, he held teaching jobs in four school districts across three states.
During the 2022–2023 school year he taught fourth grade at Donald Elementary in the Lewisville Independent School District in Flower Mound, Texas. That spring the district placed him on administrative leave after parents reported to the principal that he was paying particular attention to certain female students. An internal investigation found no evidence of inappropriate behavior but concluded that his classroom management and professional judgment were “below our district’s expectations.”13NBC DFW. He taught fifth grade at Spring Creek Elementary in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma during the 2023–2024 school year. The district said he passed all required background checks and faced no disciplinary action, and he resigned voluntarily to pursue work out of state.15Fox 23. By the summer of 2025 Springdale Public Schools in Arkansas had hired him for the upcoming year. He was licensed in Arkansas as an early childhood, elementary, and middle school educator but had not yet started and had no contact with Springdale students or families before his arrest. The Charges and the Death Penalty

Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Brandon Carter confirmed the state is seeking the death penalty, and prosecutors filed a formal notice of aggravating circumstances on January 8, 2026.18Arkansas Courts. On April 1, 2026, Judge Joanna Taylor denied the motion to exclude the death penalty, ruling that it remains a sentencing option if McGann is convicted. At a May 26, 2026 hearing, Judge Taylor said most remaining pretrial motions would be resolved closer to trial.
