Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan face sex trafficking charges in two countries and are under investigation in a third. In Romania, they are indicted for human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized criminal group, with a second Romanian case added in 2024. In the United Kingdom, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorized 21 criminal charges between the two brothers, including rape, human trafficking, and actual bodily harm. In the United States, Florida’s attorney general has opened a state criminal investigation and federal anti-trafficking agents have been examining the brothers since at least 2023. The Tates deny every allegation in every jurisdiction.
The Romanian Prosecution
Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) began investigating the Tates in April 2022 after the U.S. Embassy passed on a tip about a 21-year-old American woman allegedly held against her will in Bucharest.1The Guardian. Prosecutors allege the group used what they call the “loverboy method”: the brothers or their associates feigned romantic interest to lure women, then coerced them into producing pornographic content under threat of violence.3BBC News. On June 20, 2023, DIICOT formally indicted all four defendants. The indictment named seven alleged victims. Andrew Tate was additionally charged with the rape of one of them, and Tristan Tate was charged with instigating others to violence.5Al Jazeera. The brothers were moved from jail to house arrest in March 2023, and out of house arrest in August 2023, though they remained under judicial control restricting them to the Bucharest area.6iNews. The Second Romanian Case
In August 2024, DIICOT opened a separate criminal file against the brothers, executing four search warrants in Bucharest and Ilfov county. The new allegations include human trafficking, sexual intercourse with a minor, organizing a criminal group, influencing statements, and money laundering. Andrew Tate was placed under house arrest for at least 30 days; Tristan Tate was placed under judicial control.9CNN. Seized and Returned Assets
Prosecutors sought the seizure of 15 properties, 15 luxury cars, 14 watches, and roughly 21 bitcoin (worth about $560,000 at the time).11Business Insider. The 21 UK Criminal Charges
On May 28, 2025, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed it had authorized 21 criminal charges against the brothers following an investigation by Bedfordshire Police into alleged conduct between 2012 and 2015, before the pair moved to Romania.14BBC News. Tate Brothers Charged With UK Sex Offenses

A European Arrest Warrant was issued and approved by Romanian courts, but the brothers cannot be extradited until their Romanian proceedings conclude. The UK Civil Suit
Alongside the criminal charges, four women are suing Andrew Tate in the High Court in London for rape, sexual assault, coercive control, and physical abuse, over incidents alleged to have occurred in Luton and Hitchin between 2013 and 2015. Their claims include Tate grabbing a woman by the throat, pointing a gun at a woman’s face, assault with a belt, and threats to kill.18BBC News. Tate has denied all the allegations and called them “gross fabrications.” Mrs. Justice Lambert granted the claimants’ request to expedite the trial, setting it for June 22, 2026, and saying, “It’s not in anyone’s interests that this case goes into the long grass of 2027.”18BBC News. United States Investigations and Lawsuit
Homeland Security anti-trafficking agents have been investigating the Tates since at least 2023, according to the New York Times, and no federal charges have been filed.20The New York Times. Andrew Tate Arrests Explained
When the brothers flew into Fort Lauderdale on February 27, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized their electronic devices.21ProPublica. Paul Ingrassia Probe Andrew Tate Investigation Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier opened a state criminal investigation, saying his office would “pursue every tool we have within our legal authority to hold them accountable,” and investigators executed search warrants and issued subpoenas.22Politico. In late March 2025, model Brianna Stern sued Andrew Tate in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, alleging sexual assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress in a violent encounter at the Beverly Hills Hotel on March 11, 2025, that she says left her with a concussion. The Travel Ban and Alleged White House Intervention
In February 2025, Richard Grenell, President Trump’s special envoy, raised the Tate case with Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu at the Munich Security Conference.26BBC News. In November 2025, ProPublica reported that Paul Ingrassia, then the White House liaison to the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice, had instructed senior DHS officials to return the electronic devices seized from the brothers on arrival in Florida, telling officials the request came “directly from the White House.”21ProPublica. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Gary Peters opened a formal inquiry on November 20, 2025, calling the episode “brazen interference with a federal investigation.” They wrote to White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, White House Counsel David Warrington, and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem demanding all related records by December 4, 2025, and asked the DHS Inspector General to open a formal investigation.29U.S. Senate HSGAC. Where the Cases Stand
The Romanian trafficking indictment is cleared to move to trial but has no trial date. The second Romanian case, adding an alleged minor victim and money-laundering counts, is at the investigative stage. The 21 UK charges are pending extradition, which Romanian courts have said cannot happen until the Romanian proceedings end. The UK civil trial is scheduled for June 22, 2026. Florida’s state investigation and the Beverly Hills Police inquiry are active, and the California civil suit by Brianna Stern is pending. The brothers deny every charge and allegation.
