Antonio Brown Warrant: Extradition, Plea, and Stand Your Ground

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is charged with second-degree attempted murder with a firearm in the Antonio Brown attempted murder case, which stems from a shooting outside a Miami celebrity boxing event in May 2025. He has pleaded not guilty, is free on $25,000 bond under house arrest at his Broward County home, and is asking a judge to throw the case out under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law at a hearing set for June 23, 2026. If the case survives, a jury trial is scheduled for January 11, 2027.

What Happened Outside the Boxing Event

The shooting took place around 3:00 a.m. on May 17, 2025, outside a warehouse at 221 NE 67th Street in Miami, where streamer Adin Ross had hosted a celebrity boxing card. Miami police responded after a ShotSpotter alert flagged gunfire at the location.1ESPN. Antonio Brown Detained After Gunshots Boxing Event

According to the arrest warrant, Brown got into a fistfight with Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a jewelry designer and seller. Security broke up the altercation. Prosecutors allege that Brown then grabbed a handgun from a security staffer’s hip, chased Nantambu outside, and fired two shots, one of which grazed Nantambu’s neck. Surveillance and cellphone video reportedly captured Brown advancing on Nantambu and firing.2CBS News. Not Guilty Plea, Bond, and House Arrest

On November 11, 2025, Brown’s attorney Mark Eiglarsh electronically entered a not guilty plea in Miami-Dade County circuit court and requested a jury trial.10The Athletic. Antonio Brown Not Guilty Plea in Miami Attempted Murder Case

At the next day’s bond hearing, prosecutor Kimberly Rivera urged the court to keep Brown jailed with no bail, arguing that his months in Dubai showed he had the means and willingness to flee overseas. An attorney for Nantambu, Richard Cooper, told the court Brown had “no regard for the law” and had deliberately gone to a country he believed would not extradite him. Eleventh Judicial Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer denied the request, set bond at $25,000, and ordered Brown onto house arrest with a GPS ankle monitor. Eiglarsh told the court Brown had surrendered his passport and intended to live at his Broward County home and work to support his family.11NBC News. The house arrest is a low-level form that lets Brown work while wearing the monitor, and Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez has granted at least one short-term travel request, allowing a week in Tampa in late January 2026 for business meetings and studio sessions, with a warning that the approval was not blanket.13Miami Herald. What Brown Faces if Convicted

Second-degree attempted murder in Florida normally carries up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Because prosecutors allege Brown used a firearm, Assistant State Attorney Stephanie Cruz told the court a sentencing enhancement applies that doubles the maximum to 30 years and carries a 20-year mandatory minimum.6NBC Miami. The Stand Your Ground Motion

On December 4, 2025, Eiglarsh filed a motion to dismiss the charge under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, the 2005 statute that removes the duty to retreat before using deadly force when a person reasonably believes they face imminent death or serious bodily harm.15The Athletic. Antonio Brown Case Dismissal Attempted Murder Charge

The defense version of the night differs sharply from the warrant. Eiglarsh’s motion says Brown was attacked by Nantambu and suffered injuries to his eye, knee, and hands, then retreated to his vehicle, retrieved his own lawfully permitted firearm, and fired two “warning shots” aimed away from Nantambu, whom he believed to be armed. The defense denies that Brown took a security staffer’s gun, as the warrant alleges.16Yahoo Sports. The motion also attacks Nantambu’s credibility, alleging he was jailed in Dubai for 30 days in 2022 after stealing Brown’s jewelry, physically attacked Brown backstage at Rolling Loud in 2023, and publicly threatened Brown, including the statement “your days are numbered.” The defense describes Nantambu as having “multiple fraud convictions and a violent history.”17Court TV. Antonio Brown Reportedly Hopes for Dismissal of Attempted Murder Charge After Citing Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law The Miami Herald reported that the Dubai jewelry claim is itself disputed: court records cited by the paper indicate Brown falsely accused Nantambu of stealing $3 million in jewelry, and Nantambu spent a month in a Middle Eastern jail before proving the accusations false.4Miami Herald. The June 23, 2026 hearing will decide the motion. If the judge finds Brown’s use of force was justified, the charge is dismissed.

Trouble Deposing the Alleged Victim

Nantambu has so far not cooperated with the defense. Eiglarsh scheduled a Zoom deposition for May 13, 2026, and Nantambu did not appear; a court reporter filed a Certificate of Non-Attendance, and Eiglarsh asked the court to compel him to explain himself or face contempt or removal from the witness list.18LA Mag. At a May 15, 2026 hearing, Judge Tinkler Mendez addressed Nantambu directly and ordered him to comply with the subpoena, warning that another no-show could mean contempt and jail time. She granted him another chance to sit for the deposition, with prosecutors to coordinate scheduling with his attorney. Eiglarsh said he wanted the deposition done before the Stand Your Ground hearing.19Miami Herald. Antonio Brown Attempted Murder Case Update
