Licenses You Need Before Hunting

Every hunter in Pennsylvania needs a valid general hunting license. Equipment That Makes a Crossbow Legal to Hunt With

Every bolt must carry a broadhead with sharpened cutting edges made of metal or naturally occurring stone. Safety Zones

For crossbow hunters, the safety zone is 50 yards around any occupied dwelling, residence, camp, or connected building like a barn or stable. You cannot discharge a crossbow within or through a safety zone without advance permission from the person who lawfully occupies the property. Advance permission means you asked before hunting, not after spotting a deer next to someone’s barn.8Pennsylvania General Assembly. A safety zone violation is a summary offense. First offense: $200 to $500. Second or subsequent offense within two calendar years: $500 to $1,000.8Pennsylvania General Assembly. Transporting a Crossbow in a Vehicle

Pennsylvania prohibits carrying a cocked crossbow with a bolt loaded onto the string or positioned in the firing mechanism inside, on, or against any motor vehicle. Sunday Hunting

Pennsylvania historically banned all Sunday hunting and has only opened a handful of Sundays. Young Hunters
