To receive payment for an Arkansas unemployment weekly claim, you file a certification for the prior week through the LAUNCH portal at launch.arkansas.gov or by calling ArkLine at 501-907-2590, answering questions about your earnings, hours, and job search.1Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. Unemployment Insurance The Division of Workforce Services (DWS) uses that certification to confirm you’re still eligible for the week you’re claiming. Miss a week or report it incorrectly, and the payment doesn’t come.
Where and When to File
Arkansas has moved off the old ArkNet portal. Weekly certifications now go through Arkansas LAUNCH online or ArkLine by phone. Both ask the same questions.
ArkLine is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.2Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. ArkLine – File Weekly Claims by Phone It’s closed Saturday. Filing in the last few hours before your deadline means longer hold times on the phone and slower response online, so don’t wait.
Once you finish the questions, review the confirmation screen (or the phone prompt) before submitting. Payments then go out by direct deposit or state-issued debit card, whichever you chose when you filed your initial claim. Electronic deposits generally arrive within two to three business days of a clean submission.
What You Need to Report Each Week
The certification covers the seven-day week you’re claiming. Gather this before you start filing.
- Gross earnings. All wages earned that week, even if the employer hasn’t paid you yet. Include part-time work, temp assignments, and self-employment.3Arkansas House of Representatives. Unemployment Information and FAQ
- Hours worked. Total across all jobs. DWS uses this alongside your earnings.
- Holiday, vacation, sick, and bonus pay. Report gross amounts for the week, whether or not the money has landed in your account yet.3Arkansas House of Representatives. Unemployment Information and FAQ
- Retirement or pension income. Private pension income from a base-period employer can reduce your check. Social Security does not.
- Refused work or missed interviews. If you turned down a job offer or skipped a scheduled interview, you have to say so. Refusing suitable work without good cause disqualifies you until you’ve worked at least 30 days in covered employment.4Justia Law. Arkansas Code 11-10-515 – Disqualification – Failure or Refusal to Apply for or Accept Suitable Work
The most common error: waiting to report earnings until the paycheck arrives. Arkansas counts wages when you earn them, not when you’re paid. Reporting off pay dates instead of work dates is one of the fastest ways to create an overpayment you’ll have to give back.
Job Search Contacts Required Each Week
Every week you claim, you must be physically and mentally able to work, available for suitable employment, and actively searching for a job.5Justia Law. Arkansas Code 11-10-507 – Eligibility – Conditions – Definitions Registration with a workforce office by itself doesn’t satisfy this; the statute is explicit that registration alone doesn’t prove you’re willing and available.
The minimum contacts depend on where you live. Inside a metropolitan statistical area, you need at least three employer contacts per week. Outside a metro area, it’s two.6Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. Workforce Services Regulations Each contact has to be a real employer and a real opening: an application submitted, an interview attended, or a direct inquiry about a position.
Keep a written log. Date, employer name, position, how you applied, and the outcome. DWS runs eligibility reviews, and the regulation references verification starting around the 13th or 19th week of a claim.6Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. Workforce Services Regulations Any week can be audited, though. Hold on to the log for the full claim and after. If you can’t produce it when asked, expect the weeks in question to be denied.
How Part-Time Earnings Change Your Payment
Working part-time doesn’t automatically end your benefits. Arkansas disregards the first 40% of your weekly benefit amount before it starts reducing your check. Earnings above that threshold cut the benefit dollar for dollar.7Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. Benefit and Earnings Table
Say your weekly benefit amount is $400. Forty percent of that is $160. You can earn up to $160 without any reduction. Earn $250, and the state subtracts the $90 that exceeds $160, leaving you $310. Once your earnings hit 140% of your weekly benefit amount, you get no payment that week. Still file the certification anyway to keep the claim active.
The Waiting Week
Before any money is paid on a claim, you serve one unpaid waiting week. You file the certification for that first eligible week, it counts against your claim, but no check comes. The waiting week only counts if it’s a valid week of unemployment: you filed the certification, met all eligibility requirements, and either had no earnings or earnings below 140% of your weekly benefit amount.8Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. Information Brochure You serve it once per claim. If your claim expires and you open a new one, another waiting week applies.
The maximum weekly benefit in 2026 is $451, and benefits run for up to 12 weeks per claim.9Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. Unemployment Insurance Information Handbook Twelve weeks is short. Every certification matters.
Mistakes, Overpayments, and Fraud
Not every error is fraud. Typing the wrong dollar amount usually leads to a straightforward overpayment notice and a repayment requirement. That’s the honest-mistake path.
The fraud path opens when DWS finds you knowingly made a false statement or withheld a material fact: hidden earnings, fabricated job contacts, an unreported refused job. In that case you repay every dollar you weren’t entitled to, plus a 50% penalty added once the determination becomes final.10Justia Law. Arkansas Code 11-10-532 – Claims – Recovery Pay within 30 days of the notice’s mailing date and the penalty drops to 15%. After 30 days, interest accrues at 10% per year. You cannot draw future unemployment benefits until the overpayment, penalty, interest, and costs are fully repaid, and the state can record the debt as a circuit court judgment.
If a Weekly Claim Is Denied
If DWS denies a specific week, or issues an eligibility determination you disagree with, you have 20 calendar days from the mailing date on the notice to file a written appeal. The count runs from when DWS mailed it, not when it reached you.11Justia Law. Arkansas Code 11-10-524 – Appeals A mailed appeal counts as filed on its postmark date.
Send the appeal in writing to the Arkansas Appeal Tribunal or any DWS local office. Include your name, Social Security number, and a copy of the determination. The Appeal Tribunal will schedule a hearing where both you and your employer, if involved, present evidence and testimony. In-person hearings are available for intrastate claims.
Keep filing weekly certifications through the entire appeal. Benefits can only be paid for weeks where a valid certification was actually filed. Stop filing while you wait for the decision, win the appeal, and you’ve still forfeited those unfiled weeks.
