What the Settlement Covers
The $177 million resolves consolidated litigation over two separate AT&T data breaches disclosed in 2024. The case is In re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL No. 3114, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. AT&T denied any wrongdoing and settled to end the litigation.3CCH. The fund is split into two pools tied to the two incidents. The AT&T 1 pool holds $149 million and covers the dark web leak AT&T acknowledged on March 30, 2024, which exposed names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and billing account numbers for roughly 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former account holders.4Time. That second breach did not include Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or the content of calls and texts, but it did include phone numbers, interaction counts, aggregate call durations, and in some cases cell site identifiers that could indicate approximate location.1Telecom Data Settlement. Who Was Eligible
The AT&T 1 class includes all living U.S. residents, current and former customers alike, whose personal information appeared in the March 2024 dark web leak. The AT&T 2 class covers account owners and end users whose call and text records were taken in the Snowflake breach, along with people whose phone numbers interacted with those customers during the covered period.3CCH. What Claimants Could Receive
Class members had two payment routes.
The documented-loss route pays up to $5,000 for AT&T 1 members who can show losses traceable to the breach occurring in 2019 or later, and up to $2,500 for AT&T 2 members with documented losses from April 14, 2024, onward. The pro rata route is for claimants without documentation. In the AT&T 1 pool, Tier 1 claimants (those whose Social Security number was exposed) receive five times the payment of Tier 2 claimants (those exposed but without SSN loss). In the AT&T 2 pool, account owners could take a Tier 3 pro rata payment instead of filing for documented losses.1Telecom Data Settlement. Where the Case Stands
Judge Brown granted preliminary approval on June 20, 2025. Class notices went out in August 2025. The claim deadline was originally November 18, 2025, and the court extended it by one month to December 18, 2025. The deadline to opt out or object was October 17, 2025.7CPM Legal. A final approval hearing took place on January 15, 2026, with testimony from plaintiffs’ counsel, defense counsel, and several class members who had filed formal objections to the settlement and the fee request through late 2025. As of mid-2026, Judge Brown has not issued a final approval ruling.9CourtListener. If You Missed the Deadline
Claim forms are no longer available, and the court-ordered deadline is not one you can cure late. That said, if you were a class member and did not opt out by October 17, 2025, you remain bound by the settlement’s release once final approval is entered, even though you will not receive a payment.
