AT&T Class Action Lawsuit Update: Payout Timeline and Amounts

There is no confirmed payment date for the AT&T class action lawsuit settlement. As of mid-2026, U.S. District Judge Ada E. Brown has not issued a final approval ruling on the $177 million settlement, and money will only begin moving after she signs off and any appeal periods run out.¹

Where the Case Stands Now

Judge Brown held a six-hour final approval hearing on January 15, 2026, in the Northern District of Texas, where the consolidated cases are pending as In Re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation (MDL No. 3:24-md-03114-E).²³ She did not rule from the bench. As of April 23, 2026, the official settlement website reported that the court “continues to consider whether it will approve the Settlement” and “has not yet decided whether it will approve the Settlement.”¹

Kroll Settlement Administration, the court-appointed claims administrator, is reviewing the roughly 4.38 million claims that came in by the December 18, 2025 filing deadline, a 4.8% claims rate against a class of about 99.7 million people.⁴

What Has to Happen Before Checks Go Out

Three things must occur before any class member receives a payment:

Judge Brown must grant final approval of the settlement.
All appeal periods following that approval must expire.
Kroll must finish reviewing and validating claims.¹

Reporting from early 2026 indicated that, if the court grants approval, payments would follow “in the months” after the ruling.² Any appeal filed after approval would push that timeline out further.

How Much You Could Receive

The settlement splits the money into two non-reversionary funds, meaning anything not paid out does not revert to AT&T:

$149 million for the AT&T 1 class, covering people whose personal information appeared on the dark web in the March 2024 breach.
$28 million for the AT&T 2 class, covering customers whose call and text records were exposed through the July 2024 Snowflake-related breach.⁵

Individual maximums are $5,000 for documented losses tied to the first breach and $2,500 for documented losses tied to the second. People affected by both breaches could file two claims, for a combined ceiling of $7,500.⁴ Within the first breach fund, claimants whose Social Security numbers were exposed are eligible for five times the payment of those whose Social Security numbers were not compromised.⁶

Every payout requires documentation showing the losses are “fairly traceable” to one of the breaches. Claimants without extensive records could receive substantially less than the maximum. Eligible class members are also entitled to up to 24 months of credit monitoring. Final per-person amounts depend on how many of the 4.38 million filed claims are validated and how much is deducted for legal fees and administrative costs.

What the Settlement Covers

AT&T disclosed two separate breaches in 2024. The first, announced March 30, 2024, involved a dataset on the dark web containing names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing account numbers, and Social Security numbers for approximately 7.6 million current account holders and 65.4 million former customers.⁷

The second, announced July 12, 2024, involved call and text message records illegally downloaded from a third-party cloud platform hosted by Snowflake Inc. The stolen records covered activity from May 1 through October 31, 2022, plus a small number from January 2, 2023, and included who customers contacted, when, for how long, and cell tower information that could approximate location.⁸⁹ The content of calls and texts, Social Security numbers, and credit card information were not included in this breach.

AT&T denied the underlying allegations and said it agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation.⁸

Kroll sent notices to about 99.7 million people: 57 million from the first breach, 36.4 million from the second, and 6.2 million affected by both.⁴ If you received a notice, you are already in the class unless you opted out by the October 17, 2025 deadline. The claim filing window closed December 18, 2025, and is not being reopened.

Attorney Fees and Objections Still Pending

Plaintiffs’ counsel is seeking a combined $59 million in attorney fees, about one-third of the settlement. The Lanier Law Firm, led by W. Mark Lanier, would receive $49.67 million, and the team led by Jeff Ostrow would receive $9.33 million. The firms also requested reimbursement of litigation costs totaling roughly $796,000.¹⁰ Class representatives are eligible for service awards of $1,500 each.¹¹ The fee request was debated at the January 2026 hearing, and Judge Brown has not ruled on it. Whatever she awards comes out of the settlement funds before payments to class members are calculated.

What to Do While You Wait

If you already filed a claim, no further action is required until Kroll contacts you. If your contact information has changed since you filed, update it through the settlement website so notices and any eventual payment reach you. Watch for updates on the official site at telecomdatasettlement.com, which is where the court’s final approval and any payment schedule will be posted.¹ If you did not file a claim by December 18, 2025, you are not eligible to receive a payment from this settlement, even if you received a class notice.
