There is no confirmed payout date for the AT&T lawsuit over the 2024 data breaches. The $177 million settlement is still waiting on a final approval ruling from U.S. District Judge Ada E. Where the Case Stands
Judge Brown, of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, held the final approval hearing on January 15, 2026. More than five months later, no decision has been issued. The official settlement website, last updated April 23, 2026, tells claimants directly: “We do not know how long it will take for the Court to make its decision.”1Telecom Data Settlement. Three Things Have to Happen Before Anyone Gets Paid
Payments are gated on all three of the following, in order:
- Judge Brown must grant final approval, finding the settlement fair, reasonable, and adequate.
- Any appeals from that ruling must run their course. The settlement website warns that “there may be appeals from that decision and resolving them can take time.”1Telecom Data Settlement. AT&T Data Incident Settlement
- Kroll must finish validating claims and supporting documentation.
Only then does distribution begin. When AT&T agreed to the deal in mid-2025, the company said it expected final approval by the end of that year and payments in early 2026.3Reuters. $177 Million AT&T Data Breach Settlement Wins US Court Approval That timeline has slipped.
Why It’s Taking This Long
The January hearing ran about six hours, with attorneys’ fees the main sticking point. Class counsel asked for $59 million, one-third of the total fund. Of that, roughly $49.67 million plus costs was requested by the Lanier Law Firm, and about $9.33 million plus costs by Kopelowitz Ostrow Ferguson Weiselberg Gilbert.4Greenwich Time. The settlement website does not list any specific pending objections or appeals. The objection deadline passed on November 17, 2025, and the court had earlier denied a motion to intervene filed by three individuals.5U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. How Much to Expect When Payments Do Go Out
The per-person amount isn’t knowable yet. It depends on how many of the 4.38 million claims Kroll validates, how many claimed documented losses versus a general share, and how much is left after fees, costs, and service awards. The settlement sets up two payment types:
- Documented loss payments. Claimants who can prove financial losses tied to the breaches may receive up to $5,000 from the first-breach fund or up to $2,500 from the second-breach fund, with documentation required.8Business.cch.com. AT&T Settlement Agreement
- Tier payments. Everyone else gets a pro rata share of what’s left. People whose Social Security numbers were exposed receive a larger share than those whose other information was compromised.9Clarion-Ledger. How Much Money Can You Get From the AT&T Settlement
Someone affected by both breaches could in theory collect from both funds, up to a combined $7,500.10Time. AT&T Data Breach Settlement: How to File a Claim For most claimants who filed for tier payments rather than documented losses, the actual check is likely to be much smaller, since millions of claims are splitting what remains after costs.
Don’t Confuse This With Other AT&T Settlements
Two older AT&T settlements sometimes get mixed up with this one, and neither will produce a payment tied to the data breaches. The In Re: AT&T Mobility Wireless Data Services Sales Tax Litigation, over internet-related taxes on smartphone data plans between 2005 and 2010, is fully resolved.11AT&T Mobility Settlement.
