As of April 2026, there is no AT&T settlement approval date on the record. Judge Ada E. Brown of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas held the final approval hearing for the $177 million AT&T data breach class action settlement on January 15, 2026, but has not issued a ruling.1Telecom Data Settlement. What Has to Happen Before Any Payments
Three things stand between claimants and a check. The court has to grant final approval. The appeals window then has to close, and any appeals filed have to be resolved. Only then can Kroll Settlement Administration finish processing the roughly 4.38 million claims filed and begin distribution.
The settlement website is explicit about the uncertainty: “We do not know how long it will take for the Court to make its decision,” and it warns that even a favorable ruling can be followed by appeals whose resolution “can take time.”1Telecom Data Settlement. AT&T Data Incident Settlement

Why the Court Is Still Deliberating
Multiple class members filed objections before the deadline, and at least five objectors pursued discovery requests. AT&T moved to block those requests, calling them an “underhanded attempt to derail” the settlement.3Law360. The volume of claims is also unusually high. By December 30, 2025, about 4.38 million claims had been filed against roughly 100 million eligible customers, a 4.8 percent rate that Kroll said was higher than in most data breach class actions it has administered.5CT Post. How the Case Got to This Point
The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation consolidated the various lawsuits into In Re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL Docket No. 3:24-md-03114-E, on June 5, 2024.6U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. MDL 3:24-md-03114 The case covers two breaches AT&T disclosed in 2024: the March 2024 dark web incident affecting about 73 million current and former customers, and the July 2024 cloud platform breach affecting call and text metadata for nearly all AT&T wireless customers.

What the Settlement Pays If Approved
The $177 million fund is split into two pieces: $149 million for the March 2024 dark web breach and $28 million for the July 2024 cloud breach.9CFO Dive. The December 18, 2025 deadline has passed, but late claim forms remain available for download on the settlement website. The administrator has said late submissions are not guaranteed to be accepted.5CT Post. AT&T Data Breach Settlement Claims Filed
A Note on the FCC Actions
The FCC has pursued its own enforcement against AT&T over data security, including a $13 million settlement in September 2024 tied to a 2023 vendor breach and a separate investigation into the call-and-text-records breach.11FCC.
