AT&T Settlement Checks Mailed? Not Yet—Here’s Why

Why No Checks Have Gone Out

The final approval hearing was held on January 15, 2026, and ran about six hours.2New Haven Register. Even once the judge rules, payments won’t be immediate. Three things all have to happen first:

  • The court grants final approval.
  • The window for appeals closes with no appeal filed, or any appeal is resolved.

A single appeal can add months, sometimes longer.

What You’ll Get When Checks Are Mailed

The settlement fund totals $177 million and is split between two classes: $149 million for customers affected by the breach AT&T disclosed in March 2024, and $28 million for those affected by the separate breach disclosed in July 2024.3CBS News. AT&T Data Breach Settlement

The maximum individual payments depend on which breach affected you and whether you can document losses:

  • Up to $5,000 if you were affected only by the first breach, for documented losses from 2019 onward.
  • Up to $2,500 if you were affected only by the second breach, for documented losses on or after April 14, 2024.

Most claimants should expect less than the maximums. Roughly 4.38 million claims were submitted by the December 2025 deadline, and class counsel have indicated they will seek up to one-third of each fund in fees, with administrative costs coming off the top as well.2New Haven Register. How to Check on Your Claim

Are You Thinking of a Different AT&T Settlement?

Two other AT&T-related settlements have actually been sending checks, and it’s easy to confuse them with the data breach case.

The first is the AT&T Mobility wireless data services sales tax settlement, In Re: AT&T Mobility Wireless Data Services Sales Tax Litigation (Case No. 1:10-cv-02278), administered through attmsettlement.com. It resolved claims that AT&T improperly charged taxes on mobile internet access between November 2005 and September 2010. The second is the FTC’s refund program tied to AT&T’s throttling of “unlimited” data plans.
