Checks for the AT&T data breach settlement have not been mailed, and no firm mailing date exists yet. Payments cannot begin until Judge Ada E. Brown grants final approval, the appeal window closes, and the settlement administrator finishes reviewing every timely claim. Why No Checks Have Gone Out
Three things have to happen before Kroll Settlement Administration, the court-appointed administrator, can send any money.
Judge Brown, sitting in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, must first enter a final approval order in In re AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation. She has not done so. Once she does, an appeal period opens, and any objector or class member can challenge the order. Only after appeals are resolved, or the window closes with none filed, does the administrator move to distribution. In parallel, Kroll continues reviewing the claims submitted by the December 18, 2025 deadline to confirm eligibility and payment tier.
Estimated Timing After Final Approval
One claims-tracking service estimates payments will go out roughly 40 days after final approval if no appeals are filed, and about 60 days after any appeals are resolved.2Claim Depot. Those numbers are informal estimates, not court deadlines. An appeal, a delay in ruling, or a dispute over attorneys’ fees could push distribution further out. How Much to Expect When Checks Arrive
The $177 million settlement is split into two non-reversionary funds: $149 million for the March 2024 dark-web breach and $28 million for the July 2024 Snowflake breach.4CCH / Business. AT&T Settlement Agreement What individuals receive depends on which payment track they chose when filing.
Claimants with documented out-of-pocket losses tied to the breaches can receive up to $5,000 from the first fund or up to $2,500 from the second, with a combined cap of $7,500 for people affected by both.5Commercial Appeal. In Re: AT&T Mobility Wireless Data Services Sales Tax Litigation (Case No. 1:10-cv-02278) refunds internet sales taxes improperly collected on data plans between November 2005 and September 2010. That case has final approval, and checks are going out on a rolling basis as taxing authorities process refunds. Class members did not have to file claims. FTC Data-Throttling Refunds
The FTC’s $60 million settlement over throttled unlimited-data plans has largely paid out. Most refunds went out as bill credits or checks in 2020, with about $6.3 million more distributed in 2024 to former customers who filed valid claims.
