AT&T settlement payment amounts top out at $5,000 for the dark web breach, $2,500 for the Snowflake call-records breach, and $7,500 for people affected by both, but those figures are caps that require documented financial losses. Claimants without documentation will receive a pro rata share of whatever remains in each fund after fees and costs, which analysts expect to land well below $30 per person. As of April 2026, no money has been distributed: a federal judge in Dallas is still weighing final approval of the $177 million agreement.
The Maximum Payments and What They Require
The settlement is split into two funds, one for each breach AT&T disclosed in 2024. Which fund you can claim from, and how much you can receive, depends on which breach exposed your information.
Up to $5,000 From the $149 Million Fund
This fund covers the March 2024 dark web breach, which exposed Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account passcodes, and contact information for roughly 73 million current and former AT&T customers.1AT&T. Addressing Data Set Released on Dark Web
To receive up to $5,000, a claimant had to document financial losses “fairly traceable” to the breach and occurring in 2019 or later.2Citizen-Times. How Much Will Each Customer Get From AT&T Settlement The $5,000 is a ceiling, not a flat payment; the administrator reviews the documentation and pays actual losses up to that limit.
Up to $2,500 From the $28 Million Fund
This fund covers the Snowflake cloud breach disclosed in July 2024, in which attackers stole call and text metadata for nearly all AT&T wireless customers and customers of carriers using AT&T’s network. The stolen records covered interactions from May through October 2022 and January 2, 2023, and included phone numbers contacted, interaction counts, and aggregate durations. A subset also contained cell site identifiers that can approximate location. Call and text content, Social Security numbers, and customer names were not exposed.3Cybersecurity Dive. To claim up to $2,500, a claimant had to document losses fairly traceable to this breach and occurring on or after April 14, 2024.4The Hill. $177M AT&T Settlement Deadline Nears
Up to $7,500 for Overlap Claimants
People whose data was compromised in both breaches qualify as “overlap settlement class members” and can claim from both funds. The theoretical combined maximum is $7,500, but the same documentation cannot be used twice: each fund requires its own proof of loss.5Yahoo Finance. What Most Claimants Will Actually Receive
Very few of the roughly 4.38 million people who filed will collect anywhere near the advertised caps. Most filed without documented losses and will be paid on a pro rata basis from whatever is left in each fund after administrative costs, attorney fees, and documented-loss payouts.7CT Post. For the $149 million fund, undocumented claims fall into two tiers:
- Tier 1 covers claimants whose Social Security number was exposed. A Tier 1 payment is set at five times the value of a Tier 2 payment.
- Tier 2 covers claimants whose other personal information was compromised but whose Social Security number was not.
Both tiers are calculated pro rata, so each individual share depends on how many valid claims the administrator approves.8Telecom Data Settlement. AT&T Settlement Agreement For the $28 million fund, undocumented claimants receive a single pro rata share, sometimes called a Tier 3 payment.4The Hill. $177M AT&T Settlement Deadline Nears
Two figures put the likely per-person amount in perspective. Plaintiffs’ attorneys have requested about $59 million in fees, roughly a third of the total settlement, which would come off the top before any distribution to class members.9Greenwich Time. AT&T Data Breach Settlement Attorney Fees One analysis of similar large data breach settlements observed that final payments to individual claimants are “often under $30.”10Mashable. Who Is Eligible for Which Fund
Eligibility for each fund is defined separately.
The dark web breach fund covers all living U.S. residents whose personal data appeared in the leaked data set, whether or not they were still AT&T customers when the data surfaced. About 7.6 million were current customers at the time of disclosure; 65.4 million were former account holders.1AT&T. Addressing Data Set Released on Dark Web11Time. The Snowflake breach fund is broader in one respect: it reaches AT&T account owners, authorized line users, and even non-customers whose phone numbers appeared in the stolen call and text records, because those numbers were captured in the metadata even if their owners were not AT&T subscribers.11Time. When Payments Will Arrive
No payments have been distributed. Judge Ada E. Brown of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas granted preliminary approval on June 20, 2025, and held a six-hour final approval hearing on January 15, 2026.13U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Payments cannot be issued until the court grants final approval and all appeal deadlines expire. Any appeal would add further delay. Other AT&T Settlements That Are Not This One
Two earlier AT&T settlements are often confused with the data breach case. Neither has anything to do with the $177 million agreement, and eligibility for one does not affect the others.
The FTC data throttling settlement of $60 million, reached in 2019, resolved allegations that AT&T Mobility misled unlimited-data customers by throttling their speeds without adequate disclosure. About $52 million was returned to consumers in 2020, and an additional $6.3 million went out in April 2024 to former customers whose valid claims had not yet been paid.14FTC. The AT&T Mobility sales tax settlement, MDL No. 2147, resolved a class action alleging AT&T Mobility illegally collected state and local taxes on internet access services in violation of the Internet Tax Freedom Act. It was approved in 2011 in the Northern District of Illinois, and refunds have been distributed on a rolling basis as individual taxing authorities process claims.15ATTM Settlement.
