No AT&T settlement payment has been issued yet. The $177 million class-action resolution covering the two 2024 data breaches received preliminary court approval in June 2025, but the final approval hearing did not take place until January 15, 2026, and as of the most recent update on April 23, 2026, Judge Ada Brown of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas has not ruled. Why Nothing Has Been Paid Yet
Three things have to happen before Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, the court-appointed administrator, can send money to any claimant.
First, the court has to grant final approval. The January 15, 2026 hearing is behind us, but the ruling is not. Second, the appeal window has to close, and any appeals filed have to be resolved. Third, Kroll has to finish reviewing the claims that came in before the December 18, 2025 filing deadline. Approximately 4.38 million claims were submitted.1Telecom Data Settlement. How Much You Can Expect
The $177 million is divided into two non-reversionary funds, so nothing left over goes back to AT&T.2DiploFoundation. AT&T Data Breach Settlement $177M What you receive depends on which fund covers your claim and whether you filed for documented losses or for a pro rata tier payment.
The AT&T 1 Fund ($149 Million)
This fund covers the March 2024 dark web breach, which exposed data including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account passcodes, and billing information for roughly 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former customers.3AT&T. Addressing Data Set Released on Dark Web Documented loss claims are capped at $5,000 per person for harm traceable to the breach and occurring in 2019 or later. Claimants who did not file for documented losses could instead take a tiered pro rata payment from whatever remains in the fund after deductions. Tier 1 (Social Security number exposed) pays five times what Tier 2 (other personal data exposed) pays.
The AT&T 2 Fund ($28 Million)
This fund covers the July 2024 Snowflake breach, in which hackers downloaded call and text metadata from May through October 2022, and for a small group of customers from January 2, 2023, affecting nearly all of AT&T’s cellular customers.4PBS NewsHour. Account owners who did not file for documented losses could elect a Tier 3 pro rata payment from this fund.
Overlap Claims
Customers affected by both breaches could claim up to a combined $7,500. Documentation had to be unique to each breach and could not be reused across the two claims.5CNN. AT&T Data Leak Settlement
Why Actual Payments Will Likely Be Lower
The settlement agreement does not lock in exact per-person amounts for the pro rata tiers. Those figures depend on how many valid claims survive review and how much is left in each fund after deductions. Attorneys’ fees of up to roughly $49.3 million, administration costs, and service awards of up to $1,500 per class representative all come out of the funds first. With about 4.38 million claims filed, most pro rata payments are expected to land well below the stated maximums.1Telecom Data Settlement. What You Can Do Now
The claim filing window closed on December 18, 2025, after being extended from the original November 18 date. Forms are no longer available, and no new claims can be submitted.7NBC Connecticut. Other AT&T Payments You Might Be Thinking Of
Two other AT&T settlements sometimes get confused with this one.
The FTC data throttling settlement was a separate $60 million matter resolving allegations that AT&T slowed data speeds for customers on unlimited plans. AT&T distributed $52 million in bill credits and refund checks in 2020, and the FTC sent an additional $6.3 million to 267,734 former customers in April 2024. The AT&T Mobility internet taxes settlement, In Re: AT&T Mobility Wireless Data Services Sales Tax Litigation (MDL No. 2147) in the Northern District of Illinois, addressed allegations that AT&T Mobility improperly charged taxes on wireless data services between November 2005 and September 2010. That settlement is finalized, and eligible customers receive checks on a rolling basis as individual taxing jurisdictions process refunds.10AT&T Mobility Settlement.
