No payment date has been set for the $177 million AT&T data breach settlement. The final approval hearing took place on January 15, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Ada E. Even a favorable ruling won’t trigger immediate payment. Under the settlement agreement, AT&T or other parties can appeal, and distribution waits for the appeal period to expire and all claims to be processed.5Time. How Much You Can Expect
The $177 million fund is split in two: $149 million for the dark-web breach disclosed in March 2024, and $28 million for the cloud-platform breach involving call and text metadata disclosed in July 2024.6CBS News. AT&T Data Breach Settlement: How to File a Claim What each claimant receives depends on which breach affected them and what they can document.
- Dark-web breach claimants can receive up to $5,000 for documented financial losses traceable to the breach. Those without documented losses get a pro rata share of the $149 million net fund. Class members whose Social Security numbers were exposed receive a tier-one payment worth five times what a tier-two claimant (SSN not compromised) gets.7Clarion-Ledger. Who Was Eligible
For the dark-web class, eligibility covers any U.S. resident whose personal data appeared in the leaked set that AT&T disclosed on March 30, 2024. About 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former account holders were affected, and the exposed data included Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and account passcodes.9AT&T. For the cloud-platform class, eligibility extends to AT&T account owners, line users, and end users whose call or text records were downloaded, as well as people whose phone numbers appeared in those records. The breach hit nearly all AT&T cellular customers, though the stolen data was metadata rather than message content.10KCRA. AT&T Data Breach Settlement: How to Claim Money

Other AT&T Settlements Are Separate
Two other AT&T matters sometimes get confused with this one. The FCC announced a $13 million settlement with AT&T in September 2024 over a January 2023 vendor breach affecting roughly 8.9 million customers; that consent decree required security program changes and audits rather than direct payments to customers.12FCC. AT&T Consent Decree Announcement The FTC’s $60 million case against AT&T concerned throttling of “unlimited” data plans, not a breach; $52 million went out in 2020 and $6.3 million to former customers in April 2024.13FTC. What to Watch For
The next milestone is a written order from Judge Brown. Once final approval is granted, watch for two things: whether anyone files an appeal, and an announcement from Kroll on the settlement website about processing timelines. Until the court rules, the schedule is open-ended.1Telecom Data Settlement. In Re AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation Settlement
