There is no AT&T settlement payout update showing money on the way yet. The $177 million data breach settlement is still waiting on final approval from Judge Ada E. What Has to Happen Before Checks Go Out

Three steps stand between claimants and any payment, and they run in order.4Telecom Data Settlement. Telecom Data Settlement FAQ

First, the court must grant final approval. Judge Brown gave preliminary approval on June 20, 2025 and held the fairness hearing on January 15, 2026, but a final approval order has not been issued.5U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. Second, the appeals window has to close. That period typically runs about 30 days after the approval order. If any class member appeals, payouts stall until the appeal is resolved.4Telecom Data Settlement. Telecom Data Settlement FAQ

Third, Kroll has to finish processing claims. The filing deadline passed on December 18, 2025, and review is underway.4Telecom Data Settlement. Telecom Data Settlement FAQ If final approval is granted and no appeals are filed, payments could begin in the summer of 2026. That estimate depends entirely on when the judge rules.2Newsweek. The claim window is closed. Opt-out and objection deadlines both passed on November 17, 2025, and no new claims are being accepted.4Telecom Data Settlement. Telecom Data Settlement FAQ

How Much You Could Receive

The total fund is $177 million, divided between the two AT&T breaches consolidated in In Re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation: $149 million for the March 2024 dark-web data leak affecting roughly 73 million people, and $28 million for the July 2024 Snowflake breach involving call and text metadata for nearly 109 million wireless customers.6CBS News. Those totals shrink before reaching claimants. Class counsel requested $59 million in attorneys’ fees, split between the Lanier Law Firm ($49.67 million, lead counsel for the first breach class) and Kopelowitz Ostrow Ferguson Weiselberg Gilbert ($9.33 million, lead counsel for the second breach class), plus about $796,000 in combined litigation costs.9New Haven Register. Claimants chose one of two payment types when they filed:

Documented Loss Payments

Up to $5,000 per person for the first breach (for losses in 2019 or later), and up to $2,500 for the second breach (for losses on or after April 14, 2024). Anyone affected by both could claim up to $7,500 total.10Time. Pro Rata Cash Payments

For claimants without documented losses, the remaining net fund for each breach is divided across three tiers. Tier 1 covers first-breach victims whose Social Security number was exposed. Tier 2 covers first-breach victims whose Social Security number was not exposed. Tier 3 covers second-breach account owners. Tier 1 payments are set at five times the Tier 2 amount.11NBC DFW. Key Dates Behind the Delay

If You’re Looking for a Different AT&T Payment

Two other AT&T matters sometimes get confused with the data breach settlement. Neither is the same case.

The FTC’s data throttling case alleged AT&T slowed speeds for unlimited-plan customers without adequate disclosure. AT&T agreed to pay $60 million. The FTC distributed $52 million in bill credits and checks in 2020, and sent an additional $6.3 million to 267,734 former customers in April 2024. The AT&T Mobility internet taxes settlement resolved claims that AT&T improperly charged taxes on wireless data services between 2005 and 2010. It was finalized years ago and required no claim form. Some class members still haven’t received checks because their local taxing jurisdictions have not processed refund requests, and there is no set timeline for the remaining payments.15ATTM Settlement.
