What Patients Are Accusing Brock Of
The complaints describe conduct spanning the 1980s through 2024. Former patients say Brock performed unnecessary and invasive breast and pelvic exams, often without gloves, and carried out non-consensual digital penetration under the guise of routine examinations. The lawsuits go further than sexual misconduct. Plaintiffs allege Brock pushed patients into vaginal deliveries when a cesarean section was medically appropriate and used unnecessary vacuum extractions to speed up labor. Some of the most serious allegations involve postpartum surgical care. What Patients Are Accusing Cedars-Sinai Of
Cedars-Sinai is a defendant in every suit. Plaintiffs allege the hospital knew about Brock’s conduct for years and did nothing. According to Los Angeles Times reporting on the filings, more than a dozen former patients say they alerted hospital personnel. Six used the patient services hotline or other formal channels. The complaints describe specific instances. In 1986, one patient reported misconduct to her regular Cedars-Sinai gynecologist, who was later promoted to head the department; no action followed. In 2010, another patient reported abuse to multiple employees and her physician, who allegedly responded that “what she described was Brock’s usual demeanor.” In 2014, a patient calling to lodge a formal complaint says a nurse told her, “I am not supposed to tell you this, but we have received other complaints about Dr. Brock,” and she never got a follow-up.1Los Angeles Times. How Many Plaintiffs and When They Filed
The first complaint was filed October 7, 2024, in Los Angeles County Superior Court on behalf of dozens of plaintiffs.5Los Angeles Times. License Surrender and Criminal Investigation
Brock left the Cedars-Sinai physician network in 2018 but kept hospital privileges while continuing to see patients through his private practices.5Los Angeles Times. The Medical Board of California filed an accusation against Brock in September 2024 concerning negligent care of a patient in 2018. He signed a formal surrender agreement in late May 2025, effective June 11, 2025. He is permanently barred from practicing medicine in California but did not admit to any factual allegations. Why Decades-Old Claims Can Still Be Filed
Much of the alleged conduct is old enough that ordinary statutes of limitations would bar it. California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act (AB 2777) reopened the door: it revives civil claims for sexual assault that occurred on or after January 1, 2009, and the revival window runs through December 31, 2026.9Dolman Law Group. Outside the revival window, California’s standing statute of limitations gives sexual abuse survivors up to ten years from the date of abuse, or three years from the date they discovered the psychological effects, to file a civil claim.
