BCBS Settlement Status In Review: Payments, Amounts, and Eligibility

If your Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement status is “in review,” it means JND Legal Administration has received your claim but has not yet issued a final determination on it. Reviews and payments are going out on a rolling basis rather than all at once, and the first wave of payments began on May 11, 2026.¹ Some claimants have already been paid; others are still waiting for their determination notice by email or postcard.²

What “In Review” Means

There is no single review date or batch. The settlement website confirms that determinations are issued on a rolling basis, which is why two people who filed on the same day can hear back weeks or months apart.² “In review” is not a rejection and it is not a request for more information. It simply means your claim is in the queue.

When the administrator finishes reviewing your claim, you will receive a determination notice by email and postcard. That notice will tell you whether your claim is valid and, if it is, the calculated payment amount along with instructions for confirming or selecting a payment method. One threshold to know: if your calculated payout comes out to $5.00 or less, no payment will be issued.¹

How To Check Your Status

Status checks happen at secure.bcbssettlement.com/claimstatus, the verification page run by JND Legal Administration.² You will need the ten-digit Unique ID from your earlier correspondence. On mailed postcards it sits in the upper-left corner; on emails it appears near the top.¹

Lost the ID? Call the administrator at (888) 681-1142 or email info@BCBSsettlement.com and ask for it.³ The filing window closed on November 5, 2021, so the website no longer accepts new claims, but it still handles status checks, document uploads, and updates on existing claims.¹

When and How Payments Arrive

The first payments went out beginning May 11, 2026.¹ Claimants receive their money through the method they picked when they filed: paper check, PayPal, Venmo, or a virtual Visa prepaid debit card.⁴

The virtual card arrives by email. You click a redemption link, enter an activation code, verify your personal information, and are then shown a 16-digit card number, expiration date, and CVV. From there the card can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay or used for online purchases. Physical debit cards and other payment methods take longer to arrive, sometimes weeks or months.⁵⁴

Watch for Scams

Because real payments are arriving now, fraudsters are actively spoofing the settlement. Legitimate payment emails come only from distribution@bcbssettlement.com, and the redemption link should point to settlementpayment.choicepaymenthub.com. Anything from a different sender, a link to any other domain, or a request for an “activation fee” or phone verification of your card details is fraudulent.⁴

How Much To Expect

The gross settlement is $2.67 billion. After roughly $667 million in attorneys’ fees and about $100 million in administrative costs, roughly $1.9 billion is left for distribution.¹⁶ That net fund is split into two independent pools:

$1.78 billion for individuals and fully insured groups (and their employees).
$120 million for self-funded accounts (and their employees).

Awards are pro rata. Your share equals the premiums you paid during the class period (or administrative fees, for self-funded plans) divided by the total from all valid claimants in your pool, multiplied by the money in that pool.⁶ USA Today has reported an average payment of roughly $333, though individual amounts vary widely with length of coverage and premiums paid.⁷ Roughly 6 million claims were filed before the deadline.⁸

Where both an employer and its employees filed, the payout is split using default allocation percentages, because insurers do not track employee-level contributions. The defaults run 85/15 or 66/34 for fully insured single and family coverage, and 82/18 or 75/25 for self-funded single and family coverage.⁶

Disputing Your Calculated Amount

Your determination notice shows the “Total Premiums Paid” or “Total Administrative Fees Paid” figure the administrator used to calculate your award. If that figure looks wrong, you can file a dispute through the link in your notice. The portal asks for your claim number, the specific year and the amount you believe is correct, an explanation, and supporting documentation.¹

You get one shot. Disputes can only be submitted once, so gather every document before you click submit. If you cannot use the online portal, disputes can be mailed to Blue Cross Blue Shield Settlement, c/o JND Legal Administration, P.O. Box 91390, Seattle, WA 98111.¹

Who Qualifies for a Payment

The subscriber class covers people and organizations that bought or received health insurance provided or administered by a BCBS company during the class period: February 7, 2008 through October 16, 2020 for individuals and insured groups, or September 1, 2015 through October 16, 2020 for self-funded accounts. The geographic scope is the United States and Puerto Rico.¹

A few exclusions cause most of the confusion. Government entities (states, counties, municipalities, tribes, and the federal government) are excluded, although quasi-government bodies like school districts and utility companies that bought BCBS coverage independently are in. Dependents, beneficiaries, and non-employees cannot be paid. Medicare Advantage policies do not qualify, but Medicare Supplemental policies do if they otherwise meet the criteria.¹

This Is the Subscriber Settlement, Not the Provider Settlement

If you are a hospital, physician, or group practice, you are looking at the wrong page. A separate $2.8 billion provider settlement covers healthcare providers who billed BCBS plans between July 2008 and October 2024. It received final approval on August 18, 2025, and its claims deadline was July 29, 2025. Providers should visit bcbsprovidersettlement.com.⁹
