BeeperMD Lawsuit: Labor Cases, COVID Testing, and Billing Complaints

Lawsuits involving BeeperMD, the Florida-based at-home healthcare company operating under the legal name Travel Doctor, PL, fall into two buckets: two federal Fair Labor Standards Act cases brought by former workers, and a long trail of consumer complaints tied to billing practices and the company’s failed COVID-19 testing rollout in late 2021.1NPI Registry (CMS). The Federal Labor Lawsuits

BeeperMD and its affiliated entities have been sued twice in federal court under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The first case resolved quickly. The second is still open.

Gibson v. BeeperMD

Aleesha Gibson sued BeeperMD, LLC; Collabratory Ventures II, LLC; Collabratory Ventures, LLC; and CEO Jeremy Gelbart in August 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks was assigned. The docket classifies the matter as an FLSA case, but the specific wage-and-hour allegations were not detailed in available court records. The parties filed a joint stipulation for dismissal without prejudice on September 19, 2023, and the court closed the case a week later, on September 26, 2023.2PACER Monitor. The pending case is broader. Whitney Carrenard filed suit in February 2025 against Collabratory Ventures LLC, BeeperMD LLC, Jeremy Gelbart, co-founder Steven J. Wolf, The Clinicians PLLC, and Travel Doctor PL. Judge William P. Dimitrouleas is presiding, again in the Southern District of Florida. As of April 2026, the case is active. Defendants The Clinicians PLLC and Travel Doctor PL have filed an answer and affirmative defenses to the amended complaint. The specific FLSA allegations have not been publicly detailed in the available docket records, and no outcome has been reached.3PACER Monitor. Carrenard v Collabratory Ventures LLC et al

Both suits name multiple corporate entities alongside the BeeperMD brand. Federal NPI records list BeeperMD as a doing-business-as name for Travel Doctor, PL, and Collabratory Ventures appears as a co-defendant in both cases.1NPI Registry (CMS). NPI Record for Travel Doctor, PL (DBA BeeperMD)

The 2021 COVID-19 Testing Failures

The company’s most publicized dispute with consumers came in late December 2021. TikTok influencer Paris Campbell, then with more than 325,000 followers, promoted BeeperMD’s at-home COVID testing as a way to skip long testing lines. Demand surged, and the operation broke down.4Rolling Stone. COVID Testing BeeperMD TikTok Fail

Customers who had already paid reported that testers never arrived, that promised results were never delivered, and that BeeperMD’s customer service line was effectively unreachable. One customer, Steve Winawer, paid $298 for a test that was never performed.5NBC Miami. Man Says COVID-19 Testing Company Didnt Deliver

The Better Business Bureau received 17 complaints about BeeperMD in the final two weeks of December 2021, and Florida’s Attorney General’s Office received at least six complaints in the same period.5NBC Miami. Man Says COVID-19 Testing Company Didnt Deliver

Company spokesperson Eddie Mady told reporters BeeperMD was “inundated and overwhelmed” by the Omicron surge and denied the company was a scam. He said BeeperMD hired 80 new staff on December 17, 2021, capped appointments, opened pop-up sites, and started collecting payment only after services were rendered. By early 2022, the company reported it had refunded more than $100,000, issued refunds to 2,762 people over four weeks, and successfully performed more than 150,000 tests in Florida in that window.4Rolling Stone. Ongoing Billing and Consumer Complaints

The 2021 testing episode was not a one-off. As of 2026, BeeperMD’s Better Business Bureau profile shows 15 consumer complaints over the past three years, with 10 filed in the most recent 12 months. The company is not BBB-accredited. Of those 15 complaints, only two are marked resolved by the consumer, and three remain unanswered.6Better Business Bureau. BeeperMD Complaints

The complaints cluster around a few recurring problems. Customers report that BeeperMD either missed insurance filing deadlines or submitted claims with incorrect codes, such as a global urgent care code instead of standard evaluation-and-management codes, and then billed the patient once the insurer denied the claim. Others describe surprise charges, including out-of-pocket amounts they had been told would be waived and bills arriving years after the service. One complaint involved the company attempting to collect $400 for COVID tests three years later, with the patient’s insurer confirming no claim had ever been submitted. Several customers say they received flat-fee bills by email with no itemized breakdown, no CPT or diagnosis codes, and no formal insurance rejection letter. Others allege that advertised 24/7 availability and same-day appointments frequently were not honored.6Better Business Bureau. BeeperMD Complaints

In several cases, BeeperMD responded by attributing errors to technical problems, zeroing out balances, or offering what the company called goodwill gestures while asking customers to remove their negative reviews.6Better Business Bureau. BeeperMD Complaints
