Bergenfield Overnight Parking: Permits, Snow Rules, and Fines

Bergenfield overnight parking is banned on most public streets from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., and each night you violate the rule carries a $55 fine.1Borough of Bergenfield, NJ. Chapter 299 Vehicles and Traffic If you need to leave a car on the street for a night, you can request a temporary exemption through the borough’s online portal or by calling the police department’s non-emergency line. Longer situations, like a driveway being repaved, require an in-person permit from the police department.

The Overnight Parking Ban

Bergenfield Borough Code Section 299-10 prohibits parking or standing on any borough street between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.1Borough of Bergenfield, NJ. Chapter 299 Vehicles and Traffic You will sometimes see a 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. window quoted online. That narrower range applies only to commercial vehicles on certain streets. For a regular passenger vehicle, the ban runs until 6:00 a.m.

Three streets near downtown carry a stricter curfew of 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.: Bergen Avenue from Washington Avenue to James Street, James Street between Madison Avenue and Bergen Avenue, and Madison Avenue from Washington Avenue to James Street.1Borough of Bergenfield, NJ. A handful of streets are exempt and allow overnight parking, including Georgian Court, Howard Drive, Ivy Lane, Liberty Road, and Martin Street, along with parts of North and South Railroad Avenue and Veterans Plaza on certain days.1Borough of Bergenfield, NJ. Getting a One-Night Exemption

For a single night or a short visit, Bergenfield uses an online portal run by Frontline Public Safety Solutions. You fill out a form with your vehicle and location details and submit it before the 2:00 a.m. cutoff.2Frontline Public Safety Solutions. Overnight Parking Entry You can also call the Bergenfield Police Department’s non-emergency line and make the request by phone.

The form asks for your license plate, make, model, color, and state of registration; the street address where the vehicle will sit; the start and end dates; a reason (construction, illness, or visiting relatives and friends); and your name, phone, and email.

A few things trip people up. The vehicle has to be legally parked and currently registered. Unregistered or disabled vehicles are not eligible. Enter the actual calendar date the car will be on the street: if you’re parking overnight Friday into Saturday, pick Friday. Past dates are rejected. There is also a cap on how many consecutive days the portal will accept in one request; if your range is too long, you’ll get an error telling you to contact the police department directly.2Frontline Public Safety Solutions. Submit early. The system processes quickly, but 1:55 a.m. is not the moment to test it.

Long-Term Permits for Construction and Similar Situations

If you need street parking for more than one night in a row, the online portal isn’t the right tool. You need a Long Term Parking Permit, which is issued in person at the Bergenfield Police Department. You fill out the permit form and provide documentation supporting the request.3Bergenfield Police Department. Bergenfield Police Department – Frequently-Asked Questions

The department expects a concrete, temporary reason. A driveway being repaved, a dumpster blocking access, or ongoing home construction are the kinds of situations that qualify.3Bergenfield Police Department. Bergenfield Police Department – Frequently-Asked Questions Simply not having enough driveway space, without an underlying temporary circumstance, does not appear to fit. Bring paperwork that shows what’s going on: a contractor’s invoice, a dumpster permit, or similar.

What Happens When It Snows

Snow overrides every permission. During a snow event, the portal automatically denies new overnight parking requests, and any exemptions already granted are rescinded.2Frontline Public Safety Solutions. Overnight Parking Entry You won’t get a personal notice. The portal just displays a message that overnight parking is unavailable due to weather.

Vehicles left on the street during a snow event can be both ticketed and towed.2Frontline Public Safety Solutions. Overnight Parking Entry If snow is in the forecast, move your car regardless of any approval you already have.

Fines, Payment, and Contesting a Ticket

Each day you violate the overnight ban carries a $55 fine.1Borough of Bergenfield, NJ. Chapter 299 Vehicles and Traffic Three nights on the street without permission can mean three separate tickets. During a snow event, towing fees stack on top.

You can pay a summons in person at the Bergenfield Violations Bureau by cash, money order, or personal check, or online through NJMCdirect.com, the state’s municipal court payment system.4Borough of Bergenfield, New Jersey. Municipal Court and Violations Bureau
