When a stranger does not immediately emerge as a suspect, police begin with the people closest to the victim. Brandon cooperated, and Midlothian police eventually said no family members, friends, or coworkers were considered suspects.6Fox 4 News. The Bloody Shirt
Four days after the murder, Brandon’s father Randy Bevers took a women’s white long-sleeved shirt stained with blood to the Dry Clean Super Center of Midlothian. An employee flagged the stains and called police.7NBC DFW. The scrutiny on Brandon intensified when May 2016 search warrants became public. That February he also sat for two long conversations with Scott Brooks, president of The Waxahachie Sun. The sessions, each about an hour and a half, streamed on YouTube on February 8 and February 15. Brandon used them to answer rumors directly and said he believes the killing was random rather than targeted. Asked whether law enforcement knows who did it, he said, “No.” Brooks said afterward that viewer response showed sustained interest in the case and, in his words, “a lot of interest in showing compassion to Brandon and his family” that he felt had been missing from the public story.
Where the Case Stands and Where the Family Is
Midlothian police said in April 2026 that the case remains active, not cold, and that investigators are still re-examining evidence and working leads with the Texas Rangers, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Ellis County District Attorney’s Office, and federal agencies.13KWTX. 10 Years Later, Midlothian Police Say Missy Bevers Murder Case Remains Active14CBS News Texas. Missy Bevers Family Speaks 10 Years After Midlothian Church Murder Allie said the family tends to “talk about the happy things” and that she scrolls Missy’s Facebook posts when she misses her. Sarah, who was in second grade when Missy was killed, credited Hannah with stepping in to get her to school and help raise her. Hannah described a sudden wave of grief after seeing other women out shopping with their mothers: “I got in the car and just started crying. I forgot that people do that — hang out with their moms and go shopping.”
Milestones still hurt. Allie said she wants “nothing more in my life than my mom at my wedding day.” Hannah said she dreads hers, but also offered a wider thought on what the family has become: “I’ve always said I’m grateful for the experience, because it made us stronger people. Was it hard and terrible and traumatic? Yes. But it made us who we are today — people who love with our full hearts.”15CBS News Texas.
