No gel pens, no erasable pens, no pencils, no cross-outs, no white-out. Any of those forces the couple to buy a duplicate license.
The completed license must be returned within 10 days of the ceremony. A standard public license goes back to the county recorder’s office in the county that issued it; a confidential license goes back to the county clerk’s office instead.10California Department of Public Health. Filing the license correctly and on time is the entire legal point of the appointment.
