Your Drink Has to Come From Inside the Mall
The rule most visitors miss is where the alcohol was purchased. Under Las Vegas Municipal Code 10.76.010, it is illegal to carry an open container within 1,000 feet of the off-sale liquor store or convenience store where the beverage was bought. That buffer covers a lot of downtown. In practice, it means you cannot grab a six-pack from a corner store or a bottle of wine from your hotel and crack it open on the mall.
Drinks purchased from casinos, bars, restaurants, and outdoor vendors inside the Fremont Street Experience are fine to carry around. Those establishments are licensed for exactly this kind of walk-around consumption.
No Glass, No Cans, No Original Containers
The Las Vegas City Council banned the consumption of alcoholic beverages from original containers on the Fremont Street Experience. Glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles are all prohibited within the five-block mall. Your drink needs to be in a plastic cup, paper cup, or similar non-original container.
This is rarely something you have to think about. Bars and casinos on the mall automatically pour walk-around drinks into approved plastic cups. You do not need to request a special container or transfer anything yourself.
