Can You Track Your Ohio EBT Card in the Mail?

You cannot track an Ohio EBT card in the mail the way you’d track a package. The Ohio Direction Card is sent by USPS first-class mail in a plain, non-forwarding envelope, and first-class mail does not carry a tracking number. What you can do is know the delivery window, confirm the card was actually mailed, and request a replacement quickly if it doesn’t arrive.

When to Expect the Card

Most recipients get their Ohio Direction Card within 7 to 10 calendar days after approval or after requesting a replacement. Weekends and holidays count toward that window even though mail isn’t delivered on those days.1Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. EBT FAQs Frequently Asked Questions for Cardholders Federal rules require new households to have the ability to use benefits no later than 30 calendar days after filing an application, so the state has to mail the card early enough to hit that deadline.2eCFR. 7 CFR 274.2 Providing Benefits to Participants

Your benefits may be loaded to the account before the card itself shows up, but you can’t spend them until you have the physical card and a PIN.

Watch for a plain white envelope with no branding. Nothing on the outside identifies it as an EBT card, and that’s intentional — but it also means the envelope is easy to mistake for junk mail. If someone else in your household handles the mail, tell them what to look for. If a PIN mailer is sent separately, federal rules require it to go out at least one business day after the card.2eCFR. 7 CFR 274.2 Providing Benefits to Participants

How to Confirm the Card Was Mailed

Since there’s no tracking link, the closest you can get is a confirmation that the card was issued and dispatched. Two ways to do that:

  • Call EBT customer service at 1-866-386-3071 and follow the automated prompts. The system can tell you whether a card has been sent.1Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. EBT FAQs Frequently Asked Questions for Cardholders
  • Call your county Department of Job and Family Services. County staff can verify your application status and confirm the mailing address on file, which is worth checking if you’ve moved recently.

Neither call gives you a location for the envelope. They confirm that the card left the fulfillment facility and that it’s addressed correctly. That’s what “tracking” looks like for an Ohio EBT card.

Why ebtEDGE Won’t Show You the Card in Transit

Some guides suggest logging into ebtEDGE, the cardholder portal run by FIS Global, to check delivery status. That doesn’t work if you’re waiting for your first card. Logging in requires the 16-digit number printed on the card and a PIN.3ebtEDGE. Cardholder Login Using Existing PIN Without the card in hand, you have neither.

The portal and its mobile app are useful once the card arrives — balance, transaction history, freezing the card, ordering replacements.4FIS Global. ebtEDGE App – Manage EBT Benefits With FIS They just don’t show mail delivery.

What to Do If the Card Doesn’t Arrive

If 10 calendar days have passed and nothing has come, call 1-866-386-3071 and request a replacement. The number the state issued is deactivated on the spot so nobody else can use it, and a new card goes into the same 7-to-10-calendar-day mailing cycle. If you already have an ebtEDGE account from a previous card, you can also order the replacement through the mobile app.4FIS Global. ebtEDGE App – Manage EBT Benefits With FIS

Before you request the replacement, confirm the address the county has on file matches where you actually get mail. A card sent to an old address won’t be forwarded — the envelope is marked non-forwarding — and that’s a common reason first cards never show up.

If You Need Benefits Faster Than the Mail Can Deliver

Ohio’s expedited food assistance service is separate from card tracking, but it’s what you want if the wait itself is the emergency.
