Charlie Sheen Child Support: Mueller’s Claim and California Rule

Charlie Sheen is facing a child support claim from ex-wife Brooke Mueller alleging he owes roughly $15.4 million in unpaid support and accrued interest for the couple’s twin sons, Bob and Max. Mueller filed the paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court on December 4, 2025, and as of early 2026 the two sides are trying to resolve it privately rather than in open court.1USA Today. What Mueller Is Claiming

Mueller’s filing breaks the alleged debt into $8,967,600 in unpaid support stretching back to 2011 and $6,418,643 in accrued interest. She also asked the court for $25,000 in attorney fees and requested that Sheen be ordered to pay the full amount within 30 days.2People. The claim builds on a 2010 court order requiring Sheen to pay $55,000 per month in support for the twins.2People. Her year-by-year accounting alleges he paid nothing from 2012 through 2015, made sporadic partial payments in later years, and paid just $39,000 in 2025 against an annual obligation of $660,000.3Yahoo Entertainment. How Sheen Is Responding

A representative for Sheen told reporters Mueller is “not entitled to any child support,” arguing that Sheen has had “100% custody of the kids” while Mueller has been “in and out of rehab for the past 15 years.”4New York Daily News. The custody record cuts in several directions. Mueller received primary physical custody in the 2011 divorce settlement.5ABC News Australia. Where the Case Stands Now

On January 29, 2026, Mueller filed documents asking the court to push a February 2 hearing to a date after April 3, giving the parties time to negotiate privately. As part of that agreement, Sheen committed to providing a detailed financial accounting of the alleged arrears by January 30, 2026. The Earlier Fight With Denise Richards

This is not the first time Sheen’s child support obligations have ended up in court. Richards, with whom Sheen shares daughters Sami and Lola, filed for divorce in April 2006.10ABC7 News. Charlie Sheen Denise Richards Divorce Filing In August 2019, she filed documents claiming Sheen owed her $450,000 in back child support accumulated since a 2016 order, alleging he had “squandered over $24 million” from the sale of his Two and a Half Men interest and diverted more than $600,000 to adult family members instead of paying support.11USA Today. That dispute ended very differently from the one Mueller is now pressing. In October 2021, a Los Angeles County court reduced Sheen’s support payments to Richards to zero dollars per month, retroactive to August 1, 2018. A source close to Richards told People she was “blindsided” by the ruling and said Sheen had “kept pushing the court date.”12People. Why Sheen Says He Can’t Pay

At his peak on Two and a Half Men, Sheen reportedly earned about $1.8 million per episode and accumulated $150 million during the show’s run from 2003 to 2011.13Fox Business. How Much Charlie Sheen Is Really Worth Today He was fired in March 2011. In 2016, he sold his 5% profit participation rights in the show for about $26.7 million, and court filings afterward showed his monthly income dropping from more than $600,000 to roughly $167,000 against more than $12 million in debts.14Page Six. Charlie Sheen Wants to Reduce Child Support After $27M Payday His ex-wives argued the sale was engineered to shrink his income on paper. A court temporarily reduced his support to $10,000 per month per ex-wife pending a fuller hearing, and Mueller obtained a temporary order freezing some of Sheen’s accounts to secure $88,000 in arrears that built up after he unilaterally cut his payments.

By August 2018, Sheen returned to court citing a “dire financial crisis,” reporting average monthly income of just $2,426 and assets of about $5.8 million. He said he had been “unable to find steady work” and “blacklisted from many aspects of the entertainment industry.”15E! Online. Charlie Sheen Claims He Can’t Afford Current Child Support Payments His standing orders at that point were $55,000 per month to Mueller and $20,000 per month to Richards, plus 9.5% of any gross annual income over $2.1 million.16Global News. Reports now estimate his net worth at roughly $3 million.13Fox Business. How Much Charlie Sheen Is Really Worth Today That figure casts doubt on whether Mueller could realistically collect $15 million even if a court ordered it.

The California Rule at the Center of This Fight

Under California law, either parent can ask for a modification when circumstances change significantly, including shifts in income, custody, disability, or incarceration. The state generally directs agencies to seek a modification when the support amount would change by at least 20% or $50, whichever is less.17California Department of Child Support Services. Modify My Payment One rule matters more than any other here: a parent must keep paying the existing court-ordered amount until a judge formally grants a modification.18Los Angeles County Child Support Services. Modify My Order That is the hinge of Mueller’s claim. Even if Sheen’s income fell, the $55,000 per month obligation stayed in force unless a court changed it. Whether he ever obtained a formal reduction of the Mueller order, as he did with Richards, is the question his promised financial accounting will have to answer.
