Chris Watts himself later pointed to the family rift. Publicly Defending Her Son After the Guilty Plea
Chris Watts pleaded guilty on November 6, 2018, to nine counts including five of first-degree murder.4CNN. Cindy told the station she did not want her son to accept the plea deal, particularly as it concerned the children. “I just want him to fight,” she said. “I don’t want him to take this plea deal. At the time, the Watts parents were still relying on the version Chris had told them privately: that he had killed Shanann in a rage after watching her strangle the children. On November 19, 2018, Judge Marcelo Kopcow sentenced Chris Watts to three consecutive life terms plus 84 years with no possibility of parole.11CNN. Chris Watts has been held at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin, since December 2018. According to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, he has had few scheduled visitors in recent years, though Cindy has visited him.14New York Post.
