The Coastal Caviar lawsuit was a federal trademark infringement case filed by Philadelphia jewelry company Lagos, Inc. against the influencer-founded charm necklace brand Coastal Caviar in January 2026. Lagos claimed the newer brand’s name infringed its registered “Caviar” trademark, which it has used on jewelry since the 1980s. The dispute ended in April 2026 when the parties reached a private settlement: Coastal Caviar agreed to rename itself Club Coastal, and the case was dismissed with prejudice.1PACER Monitor. Why Lagos Sued
Lagos owns U.S. Trademark Registration No. 1703128 for the word “Caviar,” covering jewelry including rings, pins, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and watches. The company filed for the mark in May 1989 and secured it in July 1992, and the registration remains active.2Justia Trademarks. On January 23, 2026, Lagos filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The case was assigned to Judge Cynthia M. Rufe as No. 2:26-cv-00447.4Law360. Lagos, Inc. v. Coastal Caviar, LLC The complaint alleged that “Coastal Caviar” was confusingly similar to the Caviar mark, that both brands sold jewelry to the same consumers, and that Coastal Caviar had acted in bad faith and illegally diverted sales. Lagos sought a permanent injunction against use of the name along with damages.5People. The court filing followed more than a year of private correspondence. Lagos had asked Coastal Caviar to change its name before suing, and counsel for the two sides exchanged letters from December 2024 through July 2025.1PACER Monitor. Lagos, Inc. v. Coastal Caviar, LLC
The USPTO Had Already Refused Coastal Caviar’s Application
Coastal Caviar filed its own trademark application for its name in 2024. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office refused registration, citing a likelihood of confusion with Lagos’s 1992 Caviar mark. Coastal Caviar abandoned the application but later stated in court filings that the withdrawal was “in no way an acknowledgement that Coastal Caviar believes that customer confusion exists with Lagos Caviar.”5People. How Coastal Caviar Responded
In a February 27, 2026 answer, Coastal Caviar denied Lagos’s allegations and argued the complaint failed to state a valid claim. The brand said confusion was unlikely because its charm-focused, nautical-themed pieces and its customer base were distinct from Lagos’s luxury jewelry line.6AOL. Founders Kelly Schneider and Colt Bozigian also went public. In February 2026, they posted a video saying they intended to fight, and TikTok users rallied behind the small brand. Schneider later called the response “incredible” and “truly meaningful.”5People. The Settlement and Rebrand
The parties settled privately about three months into the case. On April 19, 2026, Kelly and Colt announced in a video that the brand would become “Club Coastal.” Lagos filed a stipulation of dismissal on April 20, and Judge Rufe signed the order dismissing the case with prejudice on April 21, 2026, meaning it cannot be refiled.1PACER Monitor. Financial terms were not disclosed. Schneider framed the rebrand as a business decision rather than a concession. “Fighting this was going to come at a different kind of cost. Not necessarily a loss in court, but a loss of time, resources,” she said, adding that she was “really grateful we’ve been able to reach a resolution and move forward as Club Coastal.”7AOL. What Happened to the Business
The rebrand took roughly six weeks. Club Coastal launched a new e-commerce site at shopclubcoastal.com, and sales rose 114% during the transition. The brand’s TikTok following grew from about 80,000 to nearly 125,000.8Entrepreneur. She Used a Content Engine to Break Her Daily Sales Record, Club Coastal
