Coleman was identified in the police report as the victim, but he refused to cooperate. He told officers Richardson was his girlfriend of over two years and that they had a “heated argument,” but denied anything physical happened despite what the footage showed. Prosecutors in SeaTac had 72 hours from booking to file formal charges. None were filed, and the case was cleared. How Coleman and Richardson Responded
A week after the arrest, at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on August 3, 2025, Coleman told reporters he did not think Richardson should have been arrested. “I feel like it was just a sucky situation all around,” he said. “I don’t feel as if she should have been arrested.”5The Athletic (New York Times). Richardson addressed the incident in mid-August through two social media posts. The Florida Traffic Stop
On January 29, 2026, both athletes were arrested after a traffic stop in Orange County, Florida. Richardson was charged with dangerous excessive speeding, a Florida criminal offense covering driving 100 mph or more in a manner endangering people or property. Coleman’s Arrest at the Scene
Coleman arrived at the stop in a black Jeep while the deputy was filling out paperwork. He was told to return to his vehicle but kept coming back, trying to explain Richardson’s speeding, and he refused to provide identification. A search of Coleman’s Jeep turned up a glass smoking device in the center console with a small amount of suspected cannabis, which added a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.10TMZ. Richardson and Coleman were taken to the Orange County Jail in separate vehicles, and both cars were towed. They posted bond the same evening, with Coleman released on $1,000 bond split between his two charges.10TMZ. Where the Florida Cases Stand
On February 2, 2026, attorney Alisia Adamson filed not guilty pleas for both athletes in Orange County court.11TMZ. Impact on Their Track Careers
The Seattle arrest fell during the week of the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. Richardson ran the 100-meter preliminaries but withdrew from the semifinals on August 1, 2025.
