Cost to Change Your Florida Driver’s License Address

Changing the address on a Florida driver’s license costs $25 if you do it online through the FLHSMV MyDMV Portal or at a state-run FLHSMV service center, and $31.25 if you go to a county tax collector’s office, which adds a $6.25 service fee.¹ Florida law gives you 30 calendar days from the move to get a replacement license showing the new address.²

Why the Price Depends on Where You Go

The state’s base replacement fee is $25. That’s the full price when you process the change online or walk into an FLHSMV state-operated service center.¹

County tax collector offices handle most driver license transactions in Florida, and they charge a $6.25 service fee on top of the state fee, taking the total to $31.25. Two situations reduce that cost. Veterans who provide proof of veteran status are exempt from the $6.25 tax collector service fee.¹ If your license was stolen and you can furnish proof, Florida waives the replacement fee entirely.³

Online payments go through by credit or debit card. FLHSMV service centers take credit cards, and tax collector offices often accept cash and checks as well.

The 30-Day Deadline

Florida Statute 322.19 requires you to obtain a replacement license reflecting your new address within 30 calendar days of moving.² A traffic stop after that window can produce a nonmoving citation with a $30 fine.⁴

One narrow exception: if you hold a valid student ID from a Florida school, the law presumes you haven’t changed your legal residence while enrolled, so the deadline doesn’t apply.² The same 30-day rule also applies separately to your vehicle title and registration, which you’ll have to update on their own.⁵

Changing Your Address Online

The MyDMV Portal is the fastest and cheapest route. You’ll create an account or log in, and the system will try to match you against FLHSMV records. If verification fails, you’ll get a notice and will need to handle the change in person instead.⁶

Once you’re in, select the address change option, enter the new residential address, and pay the $25 fee. The change takes effect in the state’s records immediately, so you’re compliant even before the new card arrives.¹

Online isn’t available to everyone. CDL holders and non-U.S. citizens generally have to change the address in person.⁷

Changing Your Address In Person

You can go to any FLHSMV service center or county tax collector’s office.⁸ Bring your current driver’s license and two proof-of-address documents. Many offices post wait times online and let you book an appointment.

At an FLHSMV service center the total is $25. At a tax collector’s office it’s $31.25.¹ CDL holders must appear in person and must present proof-of-residence documents at every address change; they cannot use a Certification of Address form.⁷

Documents You Need

Florida wants two different documents showing your name and new residential address. Printouts and faxes count. A P.O. box does not; the address has to be a physical Florida residence.⁷ Accepted documents include:

A deed, mortgage statement, lease, Florida voter registration card, or Florida vehicle registration or title.
A utility bill for water, gas, electric, cell phone, or cable dated within the last 60 days.
A bank, credit card, or investment account statement dated within the last 60 days.
A homeowner’s, renter’s, or auto insurance policy, or an auto payment booklet dated within the last 60 days.
A W-2, 1099, paycheck stub, or mail from a federal, state, or local government agency dated within the last 60 days.

If none of the documents are in your name, someone you live with can fill out a Certification of Address form and bring two of their own proof-of-address documents. They either come to the office with you or sign the form in front of a notary.⁷

When the New License Arrives

The physical card is mailed roughly 7 to 10 business days after you process the change. Hold onto your old card and receipt until the new one arrives. If nothing shows up after 30 days, contact FLHSMV customer service. Because the address is live in the state’s system from the moment the change goes through, you’re legally in compliance during the wait, and online orders can be tracked through the MyDMV Portal.⁶
