Courtney Clenney’s OnlyFans Murder Case: Self-Defense and Delays

Courtney Clenney, the Instagram and OnlyFans model charged in the April 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend Christian Obumseli, remains jailed without bond in Miami-Dade County, and her second-degree murder trial is now expected to begin the third week of August 2026 after a series of delays and a prosecutorial-misconduct fight that has reshaped the case.1Court TV. What Happened at the Miami Condo

On April 3, 2022, Obumseli, 27, was fatally stabbed inside the Edgewater condo he shared with Clenney.2NBC Miami. Clenney told investigators she threw the knife at Obumseli from about ten feet away after he pushed her and threw her to the ground. The medical examiner concluded the depth and character of the wound were inconsistent with a thrown blade.4Fox 7 Austin. OnlyFans Model Courtney Clenney Murder Case Bond Hearing

Clenney was not arrested at the scene. She traveled to Texas to stay with her parents and then to Hawaii, where her attorney said she was in treatment for substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder.5NBC Miami. The Self-Defense Claim and the Knife Evidence

The trial will turn on how the wound was inflicted. Clenney says she threw the knife. Prosecutors, relying on the autopsy, say the blade was driven straight down into Obumseli’s chest.

The defense retained Dr. John Marraccini, who testified it was “plausible and even likely” that a thrown knife caused the injury. Defense attorneys also presented video of a man throwing knives into a pig carcass, with Marraccini testifying that pig tissue responds similarly to human tissue and that the resulting wounds resembled Obumseli’s.8Court TV. At a pretrial hearing in June 2026, defense attorneys confirmed they had finished inspecting the knives entered as evidence.1Court TV. Courtney Clenney’s Defense Inspects Knives Ahead of Trial

Both sides describe the relationship as volatile, but they disagree about who was the aggressor. Prosecutors have pointed to elevator surveillance recorded about two months before the killing that shows Clenney striking Obumseli while he tries to push her away, a 2021 Las Vegas battery arrest after Obumseli told police she threw a glass at him, and recordings in which she can be heard screaming racial slurs.9Fox 13 Memphis. Defense attorney Frank Prieto has said Obumseli was “regularly abusive” toward Clenney. The defense has produced photographs of dark marks on her arms and legs it says are bruises, and Clenney’s father testified she had been mistreated. Defense filings also cite Arthur Cup, a neighbor who reportedly told responding officers he had seen Obumseli “wailing” on Clenney in the days before the death.12Court TV. The Prosecutorial Misconduct Fight

The most consequential development pretrial has been a fight over the prosecution’s own conduct. The defense alleges that former lead prosecutor Khalil Quinan accessed iCloud accounts belonging to Clenney and her parents that contained attorney-client communications, including strategy discussions, defense theories, witness information, and a document titled “Courtney Checklist of Things to Do-Priveleged.docx.” Defense filings claim roughly 60 people within the State Attorney’s Office accessed some of Clenney’s files.11NBC Miami. In June 2024, Judge Laura Cruz ruled that prosecutors had violated attorney-client privilege and ordered the communications excluded from evidence.14NBC Miami. Prieto has moved to disqualify the entire State Attorney’s Office. Replacement prosecutors Shawn Abuhoff and Kathleen Hoague swore under oath that they never personally reviewed the privileged material, and Abuhoff has argued Clenney suffered no “actual prejudice,” the standard for disqualification.16Miami Herald. Defense Moves to Disqualify State Attorney’s Office in Clenney Case A hearing on the disqualification motion was set for July 2026.

The defense has also alleged a Brady violation for the state’s handling of witness Arthur Cup and a Youngblood violation tied to Danny Del Valle, a civilian who arrived at the scene before emergency responders. Del Valle stated in a deposition that officers ordered him to delete photos and videos he had taken. The defense argues that lost footage could have preserved blood-spatter evidence relevant to the self-defense claim.12Court TV. Why the Trial Keeps Getting Delayed

Clenney has been held without bond since her arrival in Florida. Her attorneys proposed she live with her parents in Bee Cave, Texas, if released. Prosecutors pointed to her OnlyFans income, which exceeded $900,000 in 2020 and $1.8 million in 2021, to argue she had the resources to flee.17KATV. Social Media Model Accused of Killing Boyfriend Made $1.8M Last Year Bond was denied, and an April 27, 2026 trial date was set.4Fox 7 Austin. OnlyFans Model Courtney Clenney Murder Case Bond Hearing

That date slipped. Both sides filed a joint continuance motion after 15 to 16 “Williams rule” witnesses, whom the state planned to use to establish a pattern of prior violent conduct, failed to appear for scheduled depositions. A state expert also still needed to meet with Clenney. Judge Andrea Wolfson granted the continuance and warned it would be the last, telling the attorneys “there’s going to come a time when it’s fish or cut bait.”18Court TV. Charges Against Her Parents Were Dropped

In February 2024, Kim and Deborah Clenney were arrested in Texas and charged with unauthorized access to a computer, a third-degree felony in Florida. Prosecutors alleged they obtained the PIN to Obumseli’s laptop through a group chat with their daughter’s attorneys, accessed the device, and passed it to a lawyer.19NBC News. The Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The criminal prosecution is not the only case pending. In May 2023, Obumseli’s father, Chio Obumseli, filed a wrongful death suit against Clenney, the owner of the One Paraiso condo, its management company, and its security company. Family attorney Michael Haggard alleged a “documented pattern of violence” and said police had responded to the unit at least six times.21NBC Miami.
