Daniel Thibeault is a 51-year-old former investment fund manager from Laconia, New Hampshire, who was arrested on January 5, 2026, on charges that he sexually assaulted a patient during a therapy session in Bow. The arrest came while Thibeault was still on federal supervised release for a 2016 securities fraud conviction in which he admitted misappropriating more than $15 million from investors in a mutual fund he managed. What the Patient Reported
According to a police affidavit, the woman first contacted Thibeault in July 2025 seeking couples counseling to help save her marriage.2People. She Came to Therapist for Couples Counseling, He Allegedly Sexually Assaulted Her Mid-Session After several joint sessions with her husband, she began scheduling individual appointments at Concord Behavioral Health on South Street in Bow. During one solo session in August 2025, the affidavit states, Thibeault rubbed essential oils on her forearms and shoulders, stuck his tongue in her ear, sucked on her toes, and attempted to pull off her skirt while touching her bare legs.1Union Leader. The woman told police she asked him to stop multiple times. She alleged Thibeault told her he was attracted to her, said he “wanted her to feel seen,” and tried to unzip his pants. She said he apologized afterward and told her she would not have to pay for the session.
Her father called Bow Police on August 20, 2025, to report the incident. Detective Sgt. Tyler Coady led an investigation that included a recorded phone call between Thibeault and the woman and a sexual assault examination kit. A DNA analysis report dated December 1, 2025, confirmed the presence of unknown male DNA on the victim’s left leg, feet, and right ear.1Union Leader. The Criminal Case So Far
Thibeault pleaded not guilty to all three counts at a video arraignment in Concord District Court on January 6, 2026. His attorney, Brian Quirk, asked the public to “reserve judgment until all the facts come out in court.” Thibeault was held at the Merrimack County House of Corrections, initially on a federal detainer tied to his ongoing supervised release.
On February 12, 2026, a judge modified his bail conditions to add a no-contact order after the woman reported that Thibeault’s mother and brother had begun following her on Facebook.3WMUR. Judge Daniel Hilaire denied bail, finding “probable cause to believe that he presents a danger to the public, specifically victims in the case.”4Concord Monitor. After news of the arrest was published, at least one former patient came forward. She told police that during a session Thibeault told her to “think that we are in your bed,” then corrected himself after she reacted with visible discomfort.4Concord Monitor. How He Was Working as a Therapist
Thibeault held a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Northwestern University and was practicing as a “candidate for licensure,” a pre-licensed status that lets a counselor see patients under a licensed supervisor.8WMUR. Reports indicated Thibeault was providing services at Concord Behavioral Health while also working as an independent contractor through Open Path Collective, a nationwide nonprofit that connects patients with affordable mental health providers.11Valley News. Bow NH Therapy Assault After Bow Police forwarded a report on December 5, 2025, the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification issued an emergency order on December 22, 2025, suspending his candidate status.12NH OPLC. The 2016 Federal Fraud Conviction
Before turning to therapy, Thibeault ran an asset management and financial advisory firm called Graduate Leverage, LLC, which he founded in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 2003 and led as president and CEO.13SEC. Beginning no later than February 2013, federal prosecutors said, Thibeault created dozens of fictitious loans using the names and personal information of friends and acquaintances who never applied for or received any money.15U.S. Department of Justice. By the time the FBI arrested him in December 2014, more than $15 million had been misappropriated, over 40 percent of the fund’s total assets. When SEC examiners made an unannounced visit to Graduate Leverage’s offices shortly before the arrest, Thibeault admitted to making numerous false statements to obstruct the examination.
On March 3, 2016, Thibeault pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts to one count of securities fraud and one count of obstruction of justice. On June 16, 2016, Judge Leo T. Sorokin sentenced him to nine years in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and $15.3 million in restitution.16SEC. Supervised Release at the Time of the Alleged Assault
After the prison portion of his sentence, Thibeault was placed on three years of federal supervised release scheduled to end on March 7, 2026.1Union Leader. He was still on supervised release when the alleged assault occurred in August 2025 and when he was arrested in January 2026.
