Darnell “SuperChef” Ferguson today is a free man building an independent television career after pleading guilty in May 2025 to two misdemeanors stemming from a January 2024 domestic incident with his wife. He avoided a trial that could have sent him to prison for up to 30 years, lost his Food Network hosting job in the fallout, and in January 2026 filmed a pilot for a new cooking show at a Louisville grocery store.
How the Criminal Case Ended
On May 13, 2025, the day he was scheduled to stand trial, Ferguson accepted a plea deal in Jefferson Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal mischief and harassment, both misdemeanors. All of the original felony charges were dismissed.1WDRB. Ferguson stays out of custody as long as he avoids legal trouble during that two-year period. He also paid a $250 fine on the harassment charge.2WLKY. His Wife’s Account Differed From the Police Version
In April 2024, Tatahda Ferguson released a statement through her attorney disputing the police account. She denied there had been a break-in, saying the couple was comfortable entering each other’s homes. She said Ferguson had “simply pushed her” and that “there was no strangulation,” adding, “I have never felt unsafe or threatened by him.” She also said her words had been “twisted by certain law enforcement officials” and that she had not wanted the protective order but claimed a detective pressured her to seek it.5WAVE 3 News.
