What to Have Ready Before You Call
These offices run high call volumes. Having your file information at hand cuts your wait and helps staff route you to the right person:
- Your full legal name as it appears on your court filings, not a nickname or shortened version
- Your case or docket number from your sentencing order or judgment sheet
- Your probation officer’s name, if one has been assigned, so the call can be transferred directly
- A copy of your probation order nearby, so you can answer follow-up questions about your conditions
If You Reach Voicemail
Leave your full legal name, case number, a working callback number, and a specific reason for the call. “Scheduled check-in” or “address change” gives your officer enough to prioritize the callback. Vague messages sit longer.
Keep your own log of every call: the date, the time, the number you dialed, and what was said or left on voicemail. If a compliance question ever comes up, that log is your record that you tried to reach the office. If you don’t hear back within two business days, call again rather than assuming the message got through.
Reporting a Change or a Move
Tennessee’s probation conditions require you to notify your officer of changes to your address and employment.9FindLaw. Waiting until your next scheduled appointment to mention that you moved three weeks ago is the kind of thing that gets flagged.
Relocating outside Davidson County is a separate process. It requires court approval and a formal transfer of supervision; you can’t simply start reporting to another county’s office. Call your current officer well before any planned move so the transfer paperwork has time to go through.
