DDG Lawsuit: Halle Bailey’s Claims, Italy Fight, Custody Deal

The custody battle between Halle Bailey and DDG played out in Los Angeles Superior Court through most of 2025, with each parent seeking a restraining order against the other before both dropped those requests in October and signed a temporary custody agreement for their son, Halo. Bailey retained primary physical custody. DDG got Wednesdays and certain weekends. Both parents agreed to stop posting about the child online.

What Halle Bailey Alleged

On May 13, 2025, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted Bailey a temporary restraining order against DDG, whose legal name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. In her filing, Bailey alleged that DDG had been “physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive” throughout their roughly two-year relationship and that the behavior continued after their split in October 2024.¹

Bailey described a January 2025 incident at her Los Angeles home. She said that while she was buckling Halo into DDG’s car and tried to discuss a visitation schedule, DDG became agitated and repeatedly told her to get out of the vehicle. She alleged that when she stayed because their son was crying, DDG pulled her hair, slammed her face against his steering wheel, and chipped her tooth. She attached photos of the chipped tooth to her filing.²³

In a separate March 2025 incident, Bailey alleged that when she told DDG she and Halo were sick and she did not want the child to leave, DDG smashed her Ring doorbell camera, took her phone, and threw it out of his car window.³ She also alleged DDG regularly used derogatory language toward her in front of Halo and would “badmouth” her during livestreams to millions of followers, falsely claiming she was withholding the child or seeing other men, which she said led to online threats and harassment.⁴

The temporary order required DDG to stay 100 yards from Bailey and barred him from possessing firearms. The court also granted Bailey temporary sole legal and physical custody of Halo.⁵

DDG’s Counter-Filing And What The Court Did With It

On June 4, 2025, DDG filed his own petition for a domestic violence restraining order. In a 44-page filing, his attorney Larry Bakman argued that Bailey posed “an imminent emotional and psychological risk” to the child.⁵

DDG alleged that Bailey had “repeatedly punched and slapped him” during arguments and had hidden AirTags in his vehicles. He also claimed Bailey had made repeated threats of suicide and self-harm, which he characterized as emotional manipulation designed to control him and limit his access to Halo.⁶

The filing pointed to an August 2023 argument in which, according to DDG’s declaration, Bailey “threatened to end her life” using his legally owned firearm and then left the house with the weapon. DDG attached text messages he attributed to Bailey, including one reading “IM GOONG TO KILL MYSWLF TONIGHT” and another asking him to “take halo so he doesn’t have to see.” Bailey’s attorney told the court at a June 4, 2025 hearing that DDG’s counterclaims were “not accurate.”⁶

On June 6, 2025, the court denied DDG’s restraining order request.¹

The Fight Over Taking Halo To Italy

The central contested question mid-case was whether Bailey could take Halo to Italy for a film shoot. As part of his filing, DDG asked the court to prohibit international travel, arguing the child would be beyond the court’s jurisdiction and “emergency intervention mechanisms.”⁴

Bailey responded that she was contractually obligated to be in Italy from June 7 through August 4, 2025, that the work was her primary source of income, and that she would face damages if she failed to fulfill her contract. She also argued she could not leave Halo with DDG because he would be “out of town a majority of those months” and because Halo was a protected person under her existing restraining order.⁷

Judge Latrice A.G. Byrdsong, a family law judge at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, denied DDG’s travel restriction, finding “insufficient evidence of imminent emotional and psychological risk to the minor child” during the trip.⁵ The judge did allow DDG supervised visitation while Bailey and Halo were abroad, with a professional third-party monitor present. One court-supervised visit on September 17, 2025 lasted nine hours with a court-appointed monitor.⁸

Social Media Restrictions

In August 2025, Judge Angela Davis ordered both Bailey and DDG to stop posting about each other and about Halo on all social media platforms. Similar restrictions had already applied to DDG, and the order extended the ban to Bailey. Judge Davis also ruled that DDG’s visits with Halo had to be supervised to prevent the taking of photos or videos.⁹

The October 2025 Custody Agreement

On October 27, 2025, one week before a scheduled court hearing, both parties filed a stipulation in Los Angeles County Superior Court dismissing their competing restraining orders “without prejudice.” The dismissal cannot be used as evidence against either party, and both reserve the right to refile if future abuse occurs.⁴

The stipulation set out a temporary custody arrangement for Halo, who was 22 months old at the time:

Bailey retains primary physical custody.
DDG has custody on Wednesdays and certain weekends, with a specific schedule for holidays and birthdays.
Neither parent may post photographs, images, or information about Halo online, and the restriction extends to friends and family.
Neither parent may publicly disparage the other or do so in Halo’s presence.

The agreement also included a non-disclosure clause barring both parties from publicly discussing the litigation or the settlement terms.¹⁰¹

The custody arrangement remains temporary as of the most recent available information. Separately, DDG faces an unrelated lawsuit in New York over his song “Pink Dreads,” brought by producers and a music company alleging underpayment and defamation; that case has no connection to the custody proceedings and is still pending.¹¹
