Find the Person Before You Call
The city’s free online inmate search will tell you which facility someone is at, so you don’t waste time calling both.3City and County of Denver. Find and Visit Someone In Our Care Search by name. If nothing comes up, the person may have been released, transferred to a state facility, or booked under a name variation you weren’t expecting.
What to Have Ready When You Call
Jail staff take a lot of calls. Give yourself a fair shot at a useful answer by having this information in front of you before you dial:
- Full legal name, including middle name and any suffix
- Date of birth
- City Department (CD) number or booking number, if you have it
The CD or booking number is a unique identifier that pulls up the exact record right away. Without one, staff may need extra time, and there are limits on what they can share about housing or court dates.
Bond Questions

Setting Up Calls and Video Visits
Phone calls, video visits, and electronic messages from someone in Denver Sheriff custody all run through Securus Technologies. Securus AdvancePay lets you load a prepaid balance by credit or debit card to cover incoming calls. For jails with an average daily population of 1,000 or more, the maximum is $0.10 per minute for audio and $0.19 per minute for video, inclusive of a $0.02 per-minute facility additive. Scheduling a Visit
Denver offers three visit types: remote video, lobby video, and in-person. Both video types must be scheduled through Securus at least 24 hours in advance.6City and County of Denver. Family and Friends Guide Remote visits work from a phone, tablet, or computer through the Securus app. If online registration gives you trouble, the lobby kiosks are a workable backup.
In-person visits are offered only at the Denver County Jail on Smith Road, not at the downtown detention center. Visits last up to 30 minutes, with a limit of two per week and one per day. Personal mail does not go directly to either jail. It goes to a processing center in Tampa, Florida:

Put the person’s CD number on the envelope, or the mail comes back to you. Letters sent to either facility’s street address are also returned. You can include up to 10 photos, none larger than 8×10 inches. Packages aren’t accepted. Mail is inspected for contraband. Credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security numbers, government documents, gang-related materials, sexually explicit content, and anything from third-party mailing services will all be rejected.
