Yes. If you want to buy cannabis from a dispensary in Florida, you need a valid Medical Marijuana Use Registry Identification Card issued by the state. How to Get the Card
See a Qualified Physician in Person
Your first evaluation has to be face to face. The physician has to complete state-required training and be registered with the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). The Florida Department of Health maintains a searchable list.
Physician fees are not set by the state and typically run about $150 to $300 for the initial visit. Insurance generally doesn’t cover it.
Get Entered Into the Registry
If the physician determines you qualify, they enter your certification directly into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, an online system run by OMMU. Apply to the OMMU

Renewing the Card

Watch a separate deadline: your physician certification. Certifications cover up to 70 days of supply and have to be renewed by the doctor on their own schedule. If the certification lapses, dispensaries can’t fill orders even if the plastic card in your wallet is still valid.
What About Recreational Use?
There is no legal recreational option in Florida. In 2024, Amendment 3 would have legalized adult use and received roughly 56% of the vote, but constitutional amendments in Florida require 60%.
