Vision Benefits for Children Under 21
Children’s coverage is broader and does not depend on which plan you pick. Across all three SoonerSelect plans, members under 21 are eligible for routine eye exams, up to two pairs of eyeglasses (lenses and frames) per calendar year, and replacement or additional lenses when medically necessary. Specialty lenses such as progressives, trifocals, and photochromic lenses are covered when they meet the medical necessity standard, and low-vision optical devices and services are also covered. Contact Lenses
For adults, contacts are simply an alternative to glasses under the value-added benefit. The allowance runs $100 with Humana and $150 with Aetna or Oklahoma Complete Health, applied every two years, and you pick either glasses or contacts within that window, not both.5Humana. Separately, contact lenses are covered at any age when they are medically necessary and no other method can correct the visual defect. Qualifying conditions include aphakia, keratoconus, post-keratoplasty, aniseikonia or anisometropia, and albinism. Bandage contact lenses are covered when medically necessary. Switching Plans at Open Enrollment
Because the vision allowances differ, you may want to move to the plan with the benefit that fits you best. Plan changes are only allowed during the annual open enrollment window. If You’re Not in SoonerSelect
Not every Oklahoma Medicaid member is in SoonerSelect, and the adult vision benefits above are specific to the managed care plans. Groups that remain in the traditional fee-for-service system include Medicare-Medicaid dual eligibles, people eligible based on age, blindness, or disability, nursing facility residents, participants in Home and Community Based Services waiver programs, and Insure Oklahoma members, among others.14Medicaid.gov.
