An Aceable certificate in Texas does not carry a printed expiration date, but it does have a practical shelf life that depends on why you took the course. A drivers education certificate is accepted by the Texas Department of Public Safety for two years. A defensive driving certificate for ticket dismissal must reach the court by the deadline the judge sets, most often 90 days. And a defensive driving certificate used for an auto insurance discount typically holds up for about three years before you need to retake the course.
Drivers Education: Two Years With DPS
Once you finish an Aceable drivers ed course, DPS will accept the completion certificate for up to two years. Bring it in after that and the office will no longer use it to waive portions of the licensing exam. At that point you may have to pass the written knowledge test on your own, and in some cases retake the course entirely.
The two-year window applies to both the parent-taught program and the adult drivers ed course. Adults who let the certificate lapse usually just face the knowledge exam again. Minors in the parent-taught track can end up restarting from scratch because the graduated licensing timeline has its own separate requirements. Defensive Driving for Court: The Judge Sets the Clock

A certificate turned in on day 91 is functionally worthless for dismissal.
If You Miss the Court Deadline
Once the court’s window closes, the ticket is processed as a conviction. Points go on your record, insurance rates can climb for up to three years, and the option to dismiss that citation through a safety course is gone. Some courts add fines or reinstatement fees on top of the original amount.
If you can see the deadline slipping, call the court before it passes. Some judges will grant a short extension for good cause, such as a medical emergency or a delayed certificate.
