Dustin Alba Sentenced to 111 Years for Rape and Sexual Assault

Dustin Ronald Alba, a 34-year-old Oxnard man, was sentenced on July 31, 2025, to 111 years to life in California state prison after a Ventura County jury convicted him of nine felony counts tied to the rape and sexual assault of five women between 2012 and 2020. The jury returned its verdict on June 9, 2025, and Deputy District Attorney Rosa Romero of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted the case.¹

The Pattern of Assaults

Prosecutors said Alba met women through dating apps and social media, exchanged messages, and then forced them into sexual acts once they met in person. He used his body weight to pin victims down and ignored their pleas to stop.²

The offenses spanned eight years and three cities. The earliest documented incident, in 2012, involved a victim under 18 in Thousand Oaks. Later assaults included an attempted rape in Chatsworth in 2018, a rape in Thousand Oaks in 2019, a forcible rape in Thousand Oaks in January 2020, and a forcible rape outside Oxnard in August 2020.³

How the Case Was Built

The investigation began in August 2020, when a woman who had met Alba on a dating app reported that he sexually assaulted her at his Oxnard home. She had told him beforehand she was not looking for a sexual encounter. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Alba ripped her clothing, pulled her onto the bed, and raped her; she reported the crime after escaping.⁴

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office detectives searched Alba’s cell phone and found text messages describing sexual assaults against other women. Those messages led them to four additional victims, bringing the total to five.⁵ Alba was arrested in September 2020.

The Nine Convictions

The jury convicted Alba on all counts charged:

Three counts of forcible rape (Penal Code § 261(a)(2))
One count of forcible sodomy (Penal Code § 286(c)(2)(a))
One count of attempted forcible rape (Penal Code §§ 664/261(a)(2))
One count of assault with intent to commit rape (Penal Code § 220(a)(1))
Three counts of penetration by a foreign object (Penal Code § 289(a)(1))

Jurors also found true a multiple-victim allegation under California’s one-strike sentencing statute, Penal Code § 667.61, which drove the life terms. Additional aggravating findings were that Alba took advantage of a position of trust, that his victims were vulnerable, and that his conduct was violent.⁴

At the Sentencing Hearing

Four of the five victims read impact statements at the July 31 hearing. They described messaging or dating Alba before he forced them into sexual acts, pinned them down, and refused to stop.⁶

Romero told the court that “the defendant’s sexual violence caused profound harm to many victims, warranting the sentence imposed,” and said she hoped the victims would “begin to heal.”⁵ Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced the sentence publicly that day.⁷

Parole Eligibility and Appeal

Because Alba’s convictions are classified as violent felonies under California law, he must serve the vast majority of the term before any form of release is possible. No appeal had been publicly announced as of the sentencing date; at the time of the June verdict, reporters had been unable to reach his defense attorney for comment.⁸
