A Carroll County grand jury returned the indictment in October 2025 over what prosecutors describe as a staged home burglary and claims filed with three insurance companies. What Prosecutors Say Happened

On April 7, 2024, Carroll County sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglary and theft report at the Osefos’ home on Turnberry Court in Finksburg, Maryland. The couple told investigators they had returned from a vacation in Jamaica to find roughly 80 items — jewelry, designer handbags, clothing, and shoes — missing. They valued the property at more than $200,000.6Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Two Arrested After Fraudulently Reporting a Burglary and Theft

The sheriff’s office said detectives found problems with the report almost immediately. There were no signs of forced entry. The home’s ADT alarm had been active during the trip and recorded no motion inside. The alleged point of entry, a second-floor bathroom window, appeared undisturbed.1WBAL-TV. Prosecutors allege Edward Osefo filed claims with three separate insurance companies — Homesite, Jewelers Mutual, and Travelers Insurance — seeking $2,500 for damage to the home and $450,000 for personal property losses. According to prosecutors, he did not disclose to Homesite or Jewelers Mutual that he was simultaneously filing a claim with Travelers, and the couple attempted to claim the same diamond anniversary band twice. Travelers paid out $25,380, which included $4,500 for the ring. Homesite denied the claim.8The National Desk. RHOP Star Wendy Osefo and Husband Eddie Arrested for Fraud Charges in Maryland9WBAL. The Evidence Investigators Say They Found

Over roughly 18 months, detectives built out their case with several categories of evidence.

They determined that more than $20,000 worth of items reported as stolen had actually been returned to the original stores for full refunds before the alleged burglary.5NBC News. Real Housewives of Potomac Star Wendy Osefo and Husband Arrested on Fraud Charges

They identified photos on Wendy Osefo’s Instagram showing her wearing the gold diamond anniversary band on April 27, 2024, three weeks after the couple reported the ring stolen.1WBAL-TV. RHOP Star Wendy Osefo, Husband Arrested on Fraud Charges in Maryland

They obtained an email that Edward Osefo allegedly sent to Wendy Osefo asking whether there were “additional high-value items we can add to this inventory listing (i.e., Chanel shoes, etc.)? I’m trying to get the total to exceed $423,000, which is our policy maximum.”1WBAL-TV. RHOP Star Wendy Osefo, Husband Arrested on Fraud Charges in Maryland

And when authorities executed a search warrant at the home, they recovered at least 15 items that had been reported stolen, including jewelry and high-end handbags.6Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Two Arrested After Fraudulently Reporting a Burglary and Theft

The Fight Over Financial Records

Much of the pretrial activity has centered on the prosecution’s push to see the Osefos’ financial records. Prosecutor Melissa Hockensmith argued that despite the couple’s public image, they “have very little money” and that their financial situation was the motive. At a December 19, 2025, hearing, she told the court that investigators found 67 credit and debit cards inside four luxury wallets, one of them a Chanel wallet the couple had previously reported stolen.10The Banner. In court filings, prosecutors alleged the couple maintained roughly 40 credit and debit cards under their own names, business names, and the aliases “Pam Oliver” and “Eddie Hennessy,” calling the names a “deliberate attempt to mask their identity.” Prosecutors sought subpoenas for eight years of personal and business banking records, arguing the records would show a “pattern of excessive spending” that established motive.11People. Defense attorney Joseph Murtha called the request a “fishing expedition” and said prosecutors were “looking for something they haven’t figured out after 18 months of investigating.” The Osefos issued a statement denying they ever used aliases on any financial application, saying the names were used only for package deliveries to protect their privacy as public figures.12BET. How the Defense Is Responding

The Osefos’ legal team of Jeremy Eldridge, Clarissa Lindsey, and Joseph Murtha has mounted an aggressive defense. The attorneys have accused the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the State’s Attorney of publicly disclosing the couple’s confidential financial information. They have also alleged that local police failed to properly investigate the original burglary, exhibited bias against the family, and provided no updates for over 18 months despite the couple’s full cooperation.13Fox Baltimore. Jeremy Eldridge argued in earlier proceedings that there was “no evidence” to support the prosecution’s claims about the couple’s financial difficulties.14theGrio.
