The most talked-about Fantasia lawsuit was the threatened alienation of affection claim brought by Paula Cook in 2010 over Fantasia Barrino’s relationship with Cook’s husband, Antwaun. It was not her only brush with the courts. The Paula Cook Alienation of Affection Claim
In August 2010, Paula Cook filed court documents in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, in a custody and divorce case against her husband, Antwaun Cook. The filings alleged that Fantasia had carried on a year-long affair with Antwaun after the two met at a T-Mobile store in August 2009.1New York Post. Paula Cook signaled her intent to sue Fantasia directly under North Carolina’s alienation of affection tort. The Separation Date Ruling
Everything turned on when the Cooks’ marriage actually ended. Paula Cook maintained she and Antwaun remained together until June 2010, which would have placed the entire affair inside an intact marriage. Antwaun Cook’s lawyers argued the separation happened much earlier.
In the fall of 2010, a North Carolina judge sided with Antwaun and ruled that the couple had legally separated on September 14, 2009, only weeks after he reportedly met Fantasia.6Essence.
