Fat Joe Lawsuit PDF: Countersuit, Amended Complaint, and Arrest

The Fat Joe lawsuit currently drawing attention is a $20 million federal case filed in June 2025 by his former hype man, Terrance “T.A.” Dixon, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. It originally accused the rapper, whose legal name is Joseph Antonio Cartagena, of sex trafficking, financial fraud, and sexual conduct involving minors. In March 2026, Dixon dropped those criminal-style allegations in an amended complaint, and the surviving case is now largely a wage-and-royalty dispute. It has been consolidated with a separate lawsuit Fat Joe filed against Dixon for extortion and defamation.

What Dixon Originally Alleged

Dixon worked with Fat Joe from roughly 2005 to 2020 as a hype man, lyricist, background vocalist, and creative collaborator.¹ His original 157-page complaint, filed June 19, 2025, accused Fat Joe of “coercive labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual manipulation, violent intimidation, and psychological coercion.”²

The suit alleged that over 16 years Dixon was coerced into more than 4,000 sexual acts with women to keep his standing in the operation, with Fat Joe watching, recording, and directing the encounters in hotel rooms. Dixon said he complied out of fear of retaliation and pointed to an incident in which Fat Joe allegedly canceled his flight home and left him stranded without money after he refused.³⁴

The complaint also contained allegations involving three unnamed minors: a 16-year-old from New York, a non-U.S. citizen said to have started a relationship with Fat Joe at 15, and a Latina girl said to have met him at 15 and been housed in a condo near his family home.⁴

On the financial side, Dixon sought more than $2 million in unpaid performance wages and claimed he had been denied songwriting credits and royalties on tracks including “Congratulations” and “Ice Cream.”¹ Co-defendants included associates Pete “Pistol Pete” Torres and Richard “Rich Player” Jospitre, along with Roc Nation. The suit invoked the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and brought civil RICO claims.⁴

Fat Joe Sued First

Fat Joe’s own lawsuit came before Dixon’s. On April 29, 2025, he filed against Dixon and Dixon’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, seeking at least $15 million for extortion, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.⁵

His complaint describes a sequence of demand letters starting March 25, 2025, that requested compensation for ghostwriting and vocal work, then claimed Dixon had video evidence of trafficking violations, and finally demanded $20 million with the threat of RICO claims. Fat Joe filed suit four days after the settlement deadline passed.⁵

Fat Joe’s attorney Joe Tacopina called Dixon’s later $20 million suit a “blatant act of retaliation” and a “desperate attempt to deflect attention” from the extortion case, and said the allegations were “complete fabrications.” According to Tacopina, the professional relationship ended amicably in 2019.³

What Changed in the Amended Complaint

On March 26, 2026, Dixon filed a substantially revised complaint. It runs 64 pages, down from 157, and removes the RICO claims, the statutory rape allegations, and every claim tied to the trafficking of minors.⁶⁷

Dixon still alleges that he was forced into non-consensual sexual encounters under duress and threats, but the case now centers on money. He claims he is owed $600,000 in unpaid minimum wages for more than 200 performances, accuses Fat Joe of tax fraud through wage inflation, and names Sneaker Addict Touring, Roc Nation, and Slate, Inc. as co-employers.⁷

Fat Joe’s attorney Jordan Siev pointed to the removal of the criminal allegations as confirmation the original claims were baseless, calling the case what he said it had always been: “a financial dispute about royalties and wages.”⁷

Where the Case Stands

The case is before Judge Jennifer L. Rochon in the Southern District of New York. On August 1, 2025, the court consolidated Dixon’s suit with Fat Joe’s countersuit under docket number 25-cv-03552 and denied a request to stay discovery.⁸

Roc Nation, represented by Quinn Emanuel attorney Alex Spiro, filed a motion for sanctions against Blackburn on July 22, 2025. The motion appears grounded in Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which allows courts to penalize attorneys for filing frivolous claims. Supplemental filings continued into March 2026, and as of June 2026 no ruling had issued.⁸

Discovery has been contentious. Dixon failed to appear for court-ordered depositions in February 2026, and there were allegations that Blackburn told his client not to produce requested photographs. In April 2026, the court held defendants in contempt for the missed depositions and ordered them to pay costs for the videographer and court reporter. The court denied a request for attorney’s fees.⁹

Dixon’s Attorney Was Arrested

On May 12, 2025, a 66-year-old process server hired by Fat Joe’s legal team tried to serve Blackburn with documents from the extortion case. Prosecutors say Blackburn backed his vehicle into the server, injuring the man’s leg.¹⁰

Blackburn was arrested on June 25, 2025, the same day he and Dixon filed the $20 million suit. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office charged him with assault, harassment, reckless driving, and criminal possession of a weapon.¹⁰ Fat Joe’s attorney said Blackburn was also the subject of a pending referral to the Southern District’s disciplinary committee.¹¹

Fat Joe’s Prior Legal Record

Fat Joe pleaded guilty in December 2012 in federal court in Newark to two counts of failing to file income tax returns for 2007 and 2008, having earned over $3 million from 2007 to 2010 without filing, a $718,038 loss to the government.¹² On June 24, 2013, he was sentenced to four months in federal prison, one year of supervised release, and a $15,000 fine.¹³

He has also been in music-royalty litigation. Songwriter Eric “Fly Havana” Elliott sued in 2019 over the 2016 hit “All the Way Up.” A federal judge granted Fat Joe summary judgment in January 2022 on the finding that Elliott had signed away his rights at a Miami IHOP for a $5,000 check, but in October 2023 the Second Circuit vacated that ruling and sent the case back, holding that discovery should have been allowed because the original signed agreement was never produced.¹⁴¹⁵ Separately, Liza Rios, the widow of rapper Big Pun, sued Fat Joe and publisher Jelly’s Jams over unpaid royalties; an expert testified Big Pun had been underpaid by at least $2 million. The parties announced a settlement in June 2016, but Fat Joe later filed papers claiming no final deal existed, only an agreement “in principle.”¹⁶
