FBG Gang: Origins, FBG Duck’s Murder, and the Federal RICO Case

The FBG gang, short for Fly Boy Gang, is a Chicago South Side rap collective and street faction tied to the “Tookaville” set of the Gangster Disciples, best known through rapper Carlton “FBG Duck” Weekly, who was shot and killed in a daytime ambush in the Gold Coast on August 4, 2020. In January 2024, six members of the rival O-Block faction of the Black Disciples were convicted of federal racketeering charges for his murder, each facing mandatory life in prison.

Where FBG Came From

The “Tookaville” identity at the core of FBG traces to Shondale “Tooka” Gregory, a fifteen-year-old shot and killed at a bus stop at 63rd Street and Saint Lawrence Avenue on January 12, 2011. Police called the killing gang-related. Gangster Disciples members in the area adopted the Tookaville moniker in his memory.1The Clio. Shondale Gregory Memorial

The faction’s main rival was O-Block, a Black Disciples set based at the Parkway Gardens low-income housing complex on the 6400 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. O-Block was named for Odee Perry, a twenty-year-old gang member killed in 2011.2Chicago Sun-Times. O-Block, Most Dangerous Block in Chicago Tookaville operated a few blocks east, near 63rd and Saint Lawrence, and the two territories fed a long cycle of retaliation. Drill rap amplified it: artists on both sides taunted dead rivals by name in songs that prosecutors later argued helped drive real shootings.3Chicago Sun-Times. FBG Duck and the Music

Carlton Weekly, born in 1993, built a local and then national profile as FBG Duck. City officials and investigators identified him as a gang member, and prosecutors later said he used music and social media to raise Tookaville’s profile.4ABC 7 Chicago. A track called “Dead Bitches,” released days before he was killed, disparaged deceased members of the rival faction; federal prosecutors later pointed to it as a provocation that accelerated the plot against him.5Billboard. Weekly wasn’t the only FBG member killed. His brother, Jermaine Robinson, who rapped as FBG Brick, died in a double homicide in Woodlawn in July 2017 alongside a friend, Stanley Mack.6Chicago Sun-Times. FBG Duck Murder, Tacarlos Offerd Ordered Detained

The Gold Coast Shooting

On August 4, 2020, around 4:26 p.m., Weekly was shopping on East Oak Street in Chicago’s Gold Coast when he was ambushed. According to prosecutors and an FBI affidavit, Ralph “Teezy” Turpin spotted him outside a boutique and called fellow O-Block members downtown to kill him.7WBEZ. Investigators recovered 38 shell casings. Weekly was struck multiple times and died shortly after. His girlfriend was shot twice in the wrist. The Alleged Bounty and King Von

Prosecutors argued rapper King Von, born Dayvon Bennett, had placed a $100,000 bounty on Weekly’s head. According to Chicago Sun-Times reporting based on police documents, an informant in Chicago police custody told FBI agents and detectives about the bounty roughly two weeks after the shooting. The informant said a Black Disciples-affiliated individual first offered $50,000 for the killing, then doubled it to $100,000. A second source separately told investigators “Duck had a price on his head.”9XXL Magazine. FBG Duck Bounty

At trial, a cooperating witness testified that defendant Kenneth “Kenny Mac” Roberson had admitted joining the shooting because “Von had placed a hit on Duck.” Prosecutors also showed King Von spent $128,000 on diamond-encrusted O-Block pendants, some bought after the killing, as evidence the gang glorified the murder.3Chicago Sun-Times. The Federal Racketeering Case

On September 30, 2021, a federal grand jury in Chicago indicted five defendants in United States v. Trial began in the fall of 2023 before U.S. District Judge Martha M. Pacold and ran about three months. The government put in drill music videos, social media posts, phone records, surveillance footage, and testimony from a cooperating witness. Defense attorneys argued the music was “strictly for entertainment,” but the court admitted several videos, including King Von’s “Took Her To The O,” which prosecutors said foreshadowed the murder.3Chicago Sun-Times. On January 17, 2024, the jury convicted all six defendants of murder in aid of racketeering. The alleged gunmen were Marcus “Muwop” Smart, Charles “C Murda” Liggins, and Christopher “C Thang” Thomas. The alleged getaway drivers were Kenneth “Kenny Mac” Roberson and Tacarlos “Los” Offerd. Ralph “Teezy” Turpin, who summoned the shooters to Oak Street, was convicted on the murder and conspiracy counts. The Civil Suit and Lil Durk’s Separate Case

On October 9, 2024, LaSheena Weekly filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Cook County court. The plaintiffs include Weekly, FBG Duck’s girlfriend Cashae Williams, and Davon Brinson. The defendants include rapper Lil Durk (Derrick Banks), the estate of King Von, their record labels including Only The Family (OTF), the city of Chicago, Dolce & Gabbana (which owned the boutique outside which Weekly was shot), two private security firms, and the six convicted O-Block members.15NBC Chicago. FBG Duck’s Mom Sues Lil Durk, King Von’s Estate

The complaint alleges OTF functioned as a “hub for the O Block criminal enterprise” and that the defendants profited from the violence, claiming Lil Durk, O-Block, and OTF “became international brands through social media and music streaming platforms and profited through podcasts, social media and music streaming. In essence they monetized the killing of FBG Duck.”16WBEZ. Lil Durk was arrested on October 17, 2024, and indicted in the Central District of California on federal murder-for-hire charges. That case involves a 2022 shooting near the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles in which Saviay’a Robinson, a relative of rival rapper Quando Rondo, was killed.
