Food Settlement Update: Open Claims, Payouts, and Pending Cases

If you’re looking at food settlement claims in 2026, the active window is narrower than headlines suggest. The $87.5 million beef price-fixing settlement is accepting claims through June 30, 2026, the Sprouts Farmers Market receipt case is open until August 5, 2026, and a smaller TreeHouse Foods frozen breakfast recall settlement received final approval in February. Most of the other large food cases you may have seen — broiler chicken, tuna, Walmart weighted groceries, Mid America pet food — have already closed to new claims and are now in the payment or appeal phase.

Here is where each major case stands, who still qualifies, and what claimants can realistically expect to receive.

Baby food heavy metals. The consolidated federal cases in In re Baby Food Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litigation (MDL-3101) suffered a major setback in late February 2026, when Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley excluded nearly all of the plaintiffs’ general causation experts, finding they relied on “a series of extrapolations” rather than direct scientific evidence linking baby food at realistic exposure levels to autism or ADHD.24The Recorder. What to Expect From a Food Settlement Payout

Individual payouts in food class actions are typically modest, and that catches many claimants off guard. Settlement funds are divided among all valid claims on a pro-rata basis, so the more people who file, the less each person receives. The broiler chicken estimates illustrate the range: $25 to $50 for undocumented claims, $150 to $300 with proof of purchase.12LawFold. Chicken Lawsuit Payout Per Person Receipts, credit card statements, and store loyalty records all help increase a claim’s value.

Timing is slow even after approval. Appeals (as with Mid America Pet Food) or disputes over attorneys’ fees (as with the chicken case) can delay distribution by months. The dedicated settlement website run by the court-appointed claims administrator is the reliable place to track status; it will post payment dates, confirm your filing, and flag any additional documentation requests.
