How a Burglary Call Became a Drug Case
Three people broke into Woods’ home in the St. Marlo subdivision north of Atlanta around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Woods was in Indianapolis, where she performed later that day at the WNBA All-Star Game. Family members staying at the house confronted the intruders and fired shots. The suspects fled with what her attorneys later described as high-value jewelry.2Fox 5 Atlanta. GloRilla’s Response and Her Lawyers’ Criticism
Woods pushed back publicly on July 24, 2025. “CRAZY!! My House got Home Invaded Saturday. While I was in Indianapolis performing for the WNBA all star game & instead of focusing on finding the suspects, they focus on some cannabis,” she wrote on X. “Long story short my house gets home invaded and Im the only one that gets arrested.”7BBC News. Her attorneys, Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg, issued a statement the same day. Findling called the arrest “a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become.” The legal team said Woods’ family did the right thing by calling police after the break-in, and argued that authorities had chosen to pursue a search warrant over investigating the violent home invasion. They disputed the sheriff’s description of the quantity of marijuana, calling it a “small amount.”8Courthouse News Service. Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman acknowledged Woods’ status as a crime victim while defending his deputies. “The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” Freeman said. “At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”9Hollywood Reporter. Why These Are Felony Charges in Georgia
Cannabis remains illegal for recreational use in Georgia and is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance. Possessing less than one ounce is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. Anything over an ounce is a felony carrying one to ten years in prison.11NORML. Georgia Penalties Georgia’s limited medical cannabis program allows qualifying patients to possess low-THC oil, but it does not cover recreational users, and raw marijuana flower remains illegal regardless of amount.
Georgia law also provides a conditional discharge option for first-time offenders with no prior drug convictions, which can lead to probation and eventual dismissal if conditions are met.
Her Prior Arrest in Georgia
This was not Woods’ first run-in with Georgia law enforcement. In April 2024, she was arrested for driving under the influence in Gwinnett County after officers pulled her over around 4 a.m. for making an illegal U-turn at a red light. Officers said they smelled alcohol and marijuana. Bodycam footage released days later showed her admitting to drinking, refusing a breathalyzer, and asking officers if they knew who she was. She was booked and released on a $1,956 bond.12The National Desk. GloRilla Arrested for DUI in Gwinnett County
