How to File a GameStop Class Action Settlement Claim Form

The GameStop class action settlement claim form is available at gamestopvppasettlement.com, takes a few minutes to complete, and must be submitted by August 15, 2025. Filing lets you choose between a cash payment of up to $5 or a $10 voucher for GameStop’s website. The settlement resolves Aldana v. GameStop, Inc., which alleged that GameStop shared customers’ online video game purchase data with Facebook in violation of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act. GameStop denies wrongdoing and agreed to a $4.5 million settlement fund to end the case.1GameStop Class Action Settlement. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc.

Who Can File a Claim

You are part of the settlement class only if all three of these are true:

  • You bought a video game from GameStop’s website between August 18, 2020, and April 17, 2025.
  • You had a Facebook account at the time of that purchase.
  • Your Facebook profile was public and used your real name at the time of that purchase.

Purchases made inside a physical GameStop store do not qualify. Neither do website purchases made while your Facebook profile was private or set up under a pseudonym. If you bought games on more than one occasion during the class period, you remain a single class member and file one claim, not one per transaction.1GameStop Class Action Settlement. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc.

The person who actually made the purchase is the one entitled to file. If someone else used your account to buy a game, the purchaser is the affected party, not the account holder. Submitting a claim under another person’s identity, combining claims, or filing duplicates can get your claim rejected.

How to File the Claim Form

This is a privacy case, not a securities case, so you do not need receipts, order numbers, or Facebook screenshots to submit. The form asks for your full legal name, current mailing address, email, and phone number. You confirm under penalty of perjury that you meet the class definition and pick your payment method. The claims administrator can request documentation later to verify eligibility before approving a claim.

Online

The fastest option is the settlement website at gamestopvppasettlement.com. The site walks you through each field, lets you select cash or voucher, and generates a confirmation when you finish. Save or screenshot it as proof of filing.1GameStop Class Action Settlement. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc.

By Mail

Download a paper form from the settlement site’s documents page, or call the claims administrator at 1-888-861-4077 to request one.2Aldana v. GameStop, Inc. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc. – Documents Complete and sign the form and mail it to the address printed on it. A mailed claim must be postmarked by the filing deadline to count.

Cash or Voucher: Which to Pick

The form gives you two choices, and you select one:

  • A cash payment of up to $5, paid by check or electronic transfer after the settlement is finalized.
  • A GameStop voucher worth up to $10, redeemable on GameStop’s website.

The voucher is nominally worth twice the cash option, but it only spends at GameStop. Both figures are caps rather than guarantees. The $4.5 million fund also pays for notice costs, claims administration, attorneys’ fees, and incentive awards to the named plaintiffs, and whatever remains is divided among valid claimants. A low claim volume means payouts closer to the caps; a high volume shrinks each share.1GameStop Class Action Settlement. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc.

The August 15, 2025 Deadline

One date closes three different doors at once:

  • Claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by August 15, 2025.
  • Written requests to opt out must be received by August 15, 2025.
  • Written objections must be filed with the court by August 15, 2025.

The Final Approval Hearing is set for October 16, 2025. Once August 15 passes, you cannot file a late claim, opt out, or object.1GameStop Class Action Settlement. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc.

Opting Out and Objecting Are Different

Opting out removes you from the settlement. You get no payment, but you keep the right to sue GameStop on your own over the same VPPA claims. Statutory damages under the VPPA can run $2,500 per violation, which is the main reason anyone would exclude themselves, though pursuing an individual case means hiring a lawyer.3Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 18 USC 2710 – Wrongful Disclosure of Video Tape Rental or Sale Records To opt out, send a written exclusion request to the settlement administrator by August 15, 2025.

Objecting is the opposite move: you stay in the class but ask the judge to reject the deal as unfair. Under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(e)(5), a written objection must state its basis, be filed with the court, and say whether you plan to appear at the Final Approval Hearing.4Legal Information Institute. Rule 23 – Class Actions If the judge approves the settlement anyway, you remain bound by it and can still collect a payment if you filed a claim. You cannot both opt out and object.

What Happens After You File

Filing does not trigger immediate payment. The judge first has to grant final approval at the October 16, 2025 hearing after reviewing the terms and any objections. Once approved, the claims administrator verifies submissions and sends deficiency notices to anyone whose form is incomplete, with a chance to fix it.

Payments go out only after the final judgment becomes non-appealable, meaning any appeal window has closed or any appeals have been resolved. That routinely takes several months after approval, and longer if an appeal is filed.1GameStop Class Action Settlement. Aldana v. GameStop, Inc.
