Hub Data Settlement: Eligibility, Payouts, and Breach Details

The Hub data settlement is a $4.65 million class action resolution for people whose personal information was exposed in Hub International Limited’s December 2022 through January 2023 data breach. Eligible class members could choose either reimbursement of up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses or a flat $150 cash payment, and anyone who filed a claim can also receive two years of free three-bureau credit monitoring. The court granted final approval on January 14, 2026, and payments are scheduled to go out roughly 90 days after that date.1Claim Depot. Hub Data Settlement

Who the Settlement Covers

The class includes everyone in the United States whose personal information was accessed or acquired in the Hub International breach, or who received a Notice of Data Breach Letter from Hub. The estimated class size is 660,981 people.2ClassAction.org. Ellis v. Hub International Limited Settlement Agreement That group spans current and former Hub employees, people for whom Hub placed insurance policies, and individuals connected to the insurance carriers and employers Hub serviced.

Hub International itself, its officers and directors, the presiding judge and his staff, and anyone who filed a timely opt-out before August 8, 2025, are excluded. Class members who stayed in the settlement gave up the right to bring separate claims against Hub over the breach.3Angeion Group. Hub International Long Form Notice

What You Could Claim

Class members had to pick one of two cash options. Credit monitoring was available either way.

  • Up to $5,000 for documented losses. Reimbursement covers unreimbursed expenses tied to the breach, including credit monitoring fees, bank charges, fraud-related losses, and phone or internet costs. Expenses had to be incurred between December 1, 2022, and September 8, 2025, and backed by documentation such as bank statements, receipts, or invoices.3Angeion Group. • A flat $150 cash payment. This option required no documentation of specific losses and could not be combined with the reimbursement option. If someone submitted an out-of-pocket claim that the administrator found invalid, that person automatically qualified for the $150 payment instead.4Angeion Group. • Two years of credit monitoring. Any class member who filed a claim can enroll in three-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft protection at no cost. The administrator sends activation codes within 60 days after the settlement becomes effective.2ClassAction.org. Ellis v. Hub International Limited Settlement Agreement

Both cash payments are subject to pro rata adjustment. If approved claims exceed the net settlement fund, payments shrink proportionally; if claims come in lower than expected, payments can rise.2ClassAction.org. Ellis v. What Was Exposed in the Breach

Between December 2022 and January 2023, an unauthorized third party accessed Hub International’s network and copied files containing names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, financial account details, health insurance information, and medical records.5Insurance Business. Hub Reports Data Breach Hub discovered the activity on January 17, 2023, completed its forensic review on July 27, 2023, and began sending notification letters in late July and August 2023. If you received one of those letters, you are in the class. The credit monitoring benefit, which the settlement extends to any claimant for two years at no cost, is designed to address the ongoing exposure risk that comes with having that mix of data in criminal hands.
