As of mid-2026, Lil Boosie is not in jail, but he is close to it on two fronts: a felony aggravated assault charge in Houston and a federal move to revoke the supervised release he was placed on after his San Diego gun case. Whether Torrence Hatch Jr. goes back to prison depends largely on a July 10, 2026 revocation hearing in federal court and the Harris County assault case set for September 15, 2026.
The Houston Assault Charge
On May 24, 2026, Hatch was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly hitting a security guard named Edward Iglehart in the head with a glass hookah base at a Houston nightclub.1Houston Chronicle. Boosie Badazz Security Guard Assault Charge Court documents describe the incident starting when a guard was escorting Hatch’s niece out of the venue. The niece allegedly elbowed the guard, and as he bent down to pick up items she had dropped, he was struck in the head. He went to the hospital and received eight staples.2NewsNation. Hatch appeared in Harris County court on June 1, 2026, where bond was set at $85,000. He has publicly called the accusation a “money grab” and maintains his innocence. One of his attorneys, Carl A. Moore, said he intends to argue Hatch was defending another person. The next court date is September 15, 2026.3Fox 26 Houston. Boosie Badazz Aggravated Assault Charges Houston Nightclub
Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony in Texas. A conviction carries its own sentencing exposure, but for the question of whether Hatch is going back behind bars soon, the more immediate threat is federal.
The Federal Supervised Release Problem
The Houston arrest triggered a separate federal proceeding. Federal probation supervisors in the Southern District of California filed to revoke Hatch’s supervised release, citing three alleged violations:4WAFB. Feds Move to Revoke Supervised Release of Rapper Boosie After Texas Incident
- the new criminal charge in Texas;
- unauthorized travel to Houston for a nightclub performance without prior approval from the court or his probation officer;
- a positive test for cannabinoids in January 2026.
Probation officials recommended 18 months in prison, to run consecutively with any sentence from the Texas case, followed by another 18 months of supervised release.4WAFB. Feds Move to Revoke Supervised Release of Rapper Boosie After Texas Incident
Hatch has pushed back on every allegation. On the travel, he says his probation officer later located an email approval for the Houston trip and acknowledged it would not count as a violation. On the drug test, he admits testing positive for marijuana at the start of supervision but says every test since has come back clean. He has also pointed out that he successfully cleared more than 50 show appearances through proper notification during his supervision.5KPLC. How Much Prison Time He Could Actually Face
If Judge Bencivengo finds the violations warrant revocation, Hatch could receive up to 18 months in federal prison. If he is also convicted in Houston, probation has asked that the federal time be stacked on top of whatever Texas imposes. The two cases operate independently, which means a bad outcome in one does not resolve the other.
There is a non-trivial chance the federal case alone sends him back. The travel allegation may fall away if the email approval is confirmed, and a single old positive test is a weak basis for revocation on its own. The new Texas charge is the heavy weight: in federal supervised-release practice, a fresh felony arrest is typically what moves a judge.
Why He’s on Supervised Release in the First Place
Hatch’s current supervision stems from a San Diego federal gun case. On May 6, 2023, San Diego police stopped the SUV he was riding in and found two loaded 9-millimeter handguns inside, including a Glock 19 on the backseat where he had been sitting.6U.S. Department of Justice. The leniency matters now because the same judge who let him walk is the one deciding whether he violated the terms of that deal less than five months later.
The Older Record That Shapes His Exposure
Hatch’s criminal history is a factor in how any judge weighs the current cases. His 2009 Louisiana conviction for third-offense marijuana possession produced an eight-year sentence at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. He served about five years and was released on March 5, 2014, with parole running through 2018.12Pollstar. Lil Boosie Released From Louisiana Prison
While at Angola, he was tried for first-degree murder in the October 2009 killing of Terry Boyd, with prosecutors alleging he paid a teenager $2,800 to carry out the shooting. His defense called no witnesses. On May 11, 2012, a jury returned a unanimous not-guilty verdict after roughly an hour of deliberation.13WAFB. Lil Boosie Found Not Guilty
Federal prosecutors in the San Diego case described his record as “extensive,” listing prior convictions for battery, assault, resisting arrest, and various drug and firearm offenses.10Rolling Stone.
